It blows my mind how this place has 4.8 star reviews, when the food is literally below average in taste. The quality and quantity does not match with the price they charge. Garlic naan was super dry in the first order, second order I specifically told to add some more butter, but it came as if there is a shortage of butter in the kitchen, just a small brushy touch in the corner. We could not tell if it was a butter naan or a plain naan. For $22 for a curry (below average quantity) + one naan (two dry pieces only), it's not worth it. We ordered coke, which came in a glass, but there was no fizz. Just sweet water cola. At least open a new can or a new bottle for new order. Did I mention below average taste? Ottawa certainly has better places to eat that has less price and better quality and quantity together. My first time became my last time.

We ordered 3 curries between 4 adults and 1 child, so your guess work, that we wanted to satisfy ourselves with 1 curry, was far from any intelligence. All ordered all different curries. All of them lacked that punch, that Punjabi taste for what it is famous for. But again as you said, taste is personal and also it depends which guests you are targeting. Next, when you say the curry is enough for 2 people, why give only 1 naan with that? Make it even, give 2 naans if u think it is enough for 2 people. You are trying to hide the quantity of the curry behind the "free" naan or rice you give. Set the curry free, lol.

Regarding the coke, if you are opening a new can everytime, why not bring the cold can with the glass at the table and pop it right there. I have seen that at some restaurants. There are always better ways to give service. Don't always expect customers to complain about the food at the table. Most of them doesn't like it to do. I still tried that with the dry naan I got and told the server to bring buttery naan. And again, got the same type of garlic naan that barely had any butter on it.

Finally, yes Ottawa certainly has...

The food was very bland. The paneer gravy tasted like it came out of a grocery store sauce pack. Not worth the price at all.

In response to the restaurant's reply: It's ridiculous to see that my feedback was met with such defensiveness. While taste is subjective, it's important to acknowledge when a customer's experience falls short of expectations. My comparison to a "grocery store sauce pack" was simply to illustrate the lack of depth in flavor that I encountered. Frankly, I'm not the chef, I am assuming you have one, so forgive me if I can't pinpoint the exact missing ingredients like some kind of gourmet detective.

And speaking of taste, let's address the elephant in the room. When my partner dared to share a similar critique, your response was downright rude. I mean, if you're going to dish it out, at least have the decency to take it with a side of humility.

How about you take your own advice and do a little research on customer service? You know, as much PRIDE as you take in your food, maybe it's time to extend that to your customer service skills. Because let's face it, right now, they're not exactly earning you any Michelin stars. This is my third response, and I can already see it's falling on deaf ears. So, I'm not going to waste any more of my time giving feedback that clearly isn't wanted. Good luck with those "freshest and highest quality ingredients" – maybe they'll teach you a thing or two about...

I used to love coming here with my family but today was quite literally the worst dining experience I’ve ever had and I never could have expected it from them. We called to reserve and she said the only tables available are the side booths which was perfectly fine, but when we got there, at 7:10pm, they had seated us next to the door in the aisle where food delivery services stand to pick up their orders with absolutely no sense of privacy. We were seated in the most unforgettable area where none of the servers could see us and didn’t bother to check in, I ended up flagging one down and asking if we could please order, which we were once again dismissed for another couple of minutes since they had more important tasks such as talking to one another at the front. When we finally placed our orders at 7:30pm, we asked for it to all come together, then finally, at 8:20pm, they brought out the fries we had ordered for our toddler and nothing else. At 8:30pm we got up and left after asking multiple times for an update on our food to simply get brushed off by the waiters, who then convened at the front shooting us dirty looks and were very obviously talking shit about us. It’s a shame since this was a family favourite turned...

Absolutely go there! Ambience continues to be soothing with subtle music from India playing in background. You absolutely must try their Muligatwani soup! Wow! Real genius! So absolutely delicioys, fragrant and colourful! Plan for traffic, you must look up before going to this hidden gem because it always tricky due to many reasons. Plan ahead, their schedule is parted to allow for extensive preparations required for an exquisite meal. I once hugged the Indian cook because he is a culinary genius and on a repeat visit he is consistently amazing. Such dedication and service. Which Indian dish was best because? Truth is, its all very delicious and they are the most accomodating and professional hard working team. I wish I could try all their flavourful, fragrant, colourful and palate pleasing dishes at once, but best bring a party and see what everbody orders. Any restaurant owner will see the patterns of the excellence and dedication it takes to provide useful and consistent meals and service. Greatness is to be seen here. Go savour authentic Indian meals and remember to say Namaste to the team!

Did not dine in, but had delivery. Therefore cannot rate Service and Atmosphere. Will update review, if we ever go in to dine. Our usual Indian food restaurant didn’t open until 5 for ordering + 45 mins delivery, and it was 4pm and we were famished. This is how we stumbled upon this restaurant. Read the reviews online and on food delivery app, and this place came highly rated. What an amazing find. We will now add it to our regular delivery rotation. Apologies. No photos of food this time… we were THAT hungry. We ordered the butter chicken, the goat curry with bone and the lamb curry, with a couple of naan bread and one roti. Delicious and the serving size was very good. Well priced and we had plenty of leftover for the next day. Meat was flavourful and tender. Husband and I highly recommend giving this establishment a try! You won’t regret it. Will update post next time with photos. 😋 Update: food delivery #2 and did not take photos. 🙈 Update 2: attaching photo for our #3 delivery Ordered: butter chicken, lamb curry, lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala and vegetable spring rolls

I visited Sona along with my family on a weekday afternoon a few weeks ago. We were on our way back to Kitchener, after a trip to Quebec and Montreal, and we were simply seeking any meal with some semblance of spices...and boy did we luck out! This family run Indian kitchen took us by pleasant surprise with it's delightful flavors - well balanced, and good spicy. The quantity of food was plentiful. For our family of 4 we ordered an appetizer, a vegetable sabzi, some rotis/naans, dal and jeera rice. We were stuffed halfway through, but it was so delicious we couldn't stop until the plates were clean! Thanks to the lassi and chili pineapple soda, it all went down smooth. We were served by Chef Virendra's son (unfortunately, I can't recollect his name any longer) who was warm, friendly and super attentive. We also ended up meeting the Chef (with whom we had Vikhroli/Ghatkopar in common) to compliment his craft. Sona is a must visit for Indian cuisine in Ottawa!
