I wrote the following review over a year ago. I gave Steels a 3 out of 5. I gave 5 out of 5 for service. I went back today to give it another try. Service seemed great, food was much better, and the place was busy. I had my breakfast and went up to pay. The waitress asked how breakfast was, and I said GREAT! She then aggressively reminded me that I wrote a bad review over a year ago. My review was honest a year ago and is honest today. Everything was great until this waitress started going on about my last review. I am always honest about the breakfast I am reviewing. All I could say was “we live in Canada and we are free to give an opinion.”
This was my last visit, and being rude is never appetizing.I recently visited Steel's Restaurant at 1900 Merivale Road, a dining spot with over two decades of history in the community. Regrettably, the experience did not match my high expectations, considering its longstanding presence. Upon entering the nearly empty restaurant, I was promptly greeted and served by a friendly and efficient waitress. I ordered my usual breakfast: two poached eggs, bacon, potatoes, and rye toast, with the meal including a complimentary cup of coffee. Unfortunately, the coffee was a lukewarm letdown and was the pot's last remnant. The meal itself arrived quickly but fell short of satisfactory. The potatoes left me puzzled; I couldn’t discern if they were fried or deep-fried, and after a single taste, I abandoned the remainder. The eggs were overdone, and to my disappointment, the toast comprised three small end slices of a rye loaf. A second cup of coffee, which was never offered, would have been a small but significant gesture of attentive service. Financially, while the price aligned with that of a nearby competitor I had reviewed previously, the quality and overall dining experience starkly contrasted. This breakfast at Steel's Restaurant was notably lacklustre and left much to be desired. I offer this review in a constructive spirit, hoping it will be received as such. There is certainly room for improvement. A great breakfast can hinge on the quality of its simplest components, such as well-prepared potatoes. Steel’s has the potential to truly honour its long-established role in...
Read moreI watched the owner punch a man in the face and assault him over him asking for condiments.the workers are rude and lazy. I will not be going back there or letting my friends and family. And they cannot lie because it was all caught on video.
Response to what was written by sam: Sam,normally i NEVER REVIEW OR RESPOND but you do realize that i said i WATCHED and i said there was a VIDEO that I clearly seen….so why would i come on here to lie to ruin someones business? Everyone has to eat,but not the ungrateful ones that treat their paying customers who supported them, bad. Then comes on google to respond to someone to lie about what they did, when there is proof. I don’t really do reviews except on shein but what i saw was absolutely unacceptable regardless or what verbal exchange you had. What am i getting out tarnishing someones business? I’m not the one you will be in court with. Mi nuh get no money,no nothing. I’ve been to your restaurant before hence why i said “i will not be going back” but anyways. So what we’re not going to do is sit up on Google Reviews snd lie cause thats whats going to ruin your business. Is you not taking accountability! And tbh i would have rathered you do that, instead of writing all of that.
Your response gives professional but lets me know ,yuh really doh have no manners sir. You really need to do better. Fix up...
Read moreThis is an old school local family run diner, as expected they care about service and food, 2 key qualities that tells the public this is a good restaurant. Found this place via Google and it did not disappoint. Ordered the Combination and Steele’s platter, bagel and cream cheese as well as pancakes for the kids which they kindly split up into 4 smaller ones. This place was full all the time, once a table opened up, it was quickly cleaned and occupied. Sausage is cut into halves, bacon is cooked crisp without burning them, eggs to order and standard toast options. The pancakes were not those generic ones, cooked perfectly, golden brown color and the maple syrup gave it that authentic Canadian flavour. The bagel came with a nice healthy serving of cream cheese. The servers were the daughters of the owners and they were great, you can tell they cared and were attentive. The place is a bit dated but gives that old school feel. Looking for a breakfast diner located in lower Ottawa area that is affordable, mark...
