Just found this lovely place! We were looking for some good pad thai and noticed the reviews for Sula Wok. It does not disappoint! We had the beef momos and they were delicious ! Super juicy and flavourfull. The momos were served with pickled daikon radish, pickled cucumber, pickled onion and a bit of kimchi. It worked really well to cut through the beefy-ness of the momo. The dish was also served with dipping sauce. We chose a ginger sauce and a chili sauce (as a second extra sauce) and both were excellent. We also had the Tibetan fried noodles. I chose beef as my protein. I think it was the right choice as the sauce is something of a cross between a japanese curry and a singapore noodle. The beef could handle the strong and heavy flavour of the sauce. There was an array of veggies in the dish as well. The noodles were thin with a good chew. Over all a very nice dish, not too saucy and good curry flavours. We also had the pork pad thai. It was sweet and tangy as you'd expect from a pad thai. The pork was lightly seared and not over cooked. Again a nice mix of veggies in the dish as well. It wasn't the most authentic pad thai I've ever had but excellent none the less and definitely scratched the itch. Sula Wok is family owned and you can tell they put their heart and soul into their place. The owners run a great little place and are very kind. Keep in mind there is only outdoor seating so takeout is your go to if you want to eat indoors. We ate outside and it was lovely. Their tables display some very lovely pieces of jewelry that look like they can be purchased as well, so it's fun to take a look. Anyways, I would absolutely recommend this place. If you happen to be in the area and you're feeling a nice flavourfull east/southeast Asian dish this is definitely a spot to try. All the best to the owners and thank you for the lovely meal, friendly, honest service and the...
Read moreSula Wok is a place where culture, food, beauty, and art seamlessly blend—an achievement that is rare and difficult to perfect.
As someone who has spent years cooking, experimenting, receiving and giving criticism, and continuously refining flavors to an exceptional level, I know the impact that well-prepared, thoughtfully crafted food can have. When I experience food that is executed with passion and authenticity, it not only satisfies my palate but also elevates my entire day—and that’s exactly what Sula Wok does.
I often see people leaving reviews about food being “too fried” or finding minor faults, and my response is simple: Can you recreate the same dish, with the same precision and technique? If the answer is yes, then fair critique is warranted. If not, then it’s merely an uninformed opinion. True culinary appreciation requires an understanding that food is subjective—preferences vary from person to person.
For example, salt levels differ—I prefer my food lightly salted, while my roommate enjoys more salt. There is no universal measurement for the “perfect” amount. The same applies to oil content—some people prefer rich, oil-infused dishes, while others do not. Food is personal, and a dish should be judged within the context of its intended flavors and traditions, rather than arbitrary personal preferences.
Many struggle to accept this reality because they unknowingly participate in a culture of pretentious critique, rather than appreciating the authenticity of what is being served. Sula Wok stands out as one of Ottawa’s finest restaurants, and if I were to take someone out for a meal, this would undoubtedly be my top choice. I truly hope they continue to uphold their core values and integrity, ensuring that their food remains an expression of culture, art,...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in for our first visit to this little hole in the wall style restaurant on our way through Ottawa. It was a little underwhelming as we approached being right next door to much much more ascetically pleasing restaurant with a nice open air dining room. The owner was busy taking orders and answering the phone, and running dishes to sit in and take out customers. He was very friendly, despite me having overheard that his mother had a medical emergency the day before and was managing that in the back of his mind. His wife was busily preparing food in , for me, what would have been a torturously hot kitchen, but she seemed not to even notice.
When the food came out, after what may have taken longer than you would expect for an asian style restaurant, the reason became obviously clear. The food was what I could only describe as if we were invited over for a dinner at their house, but when the person preparing the food had a level of understanding and execution and care for ingredients that I have never experienced before from this style of food. The food was authentic, unique, amazing, and prepared in a way that was more thoughtful than what I have had from other similar type restaurants.
It was different than what I was expecting, but that’s what made it more enjoyable for me, it was that pleasant surprise that you didn’t know you needed.
And… the gelato isn’t...
