Vespa Wine Bar — Restaurant in Ottawa

UPDATE On NYE, my sister and I were enjoying ourselves until a very rowdy, already drunk group came in. The older men began berating and harassing my sister and I belligerently out of nowhere, my sister thought the man was having a medical episode. The staff allegedly asked them to leave, but they did not. They then began vaping in the restaurant and quite frankly, ruined our experience at VESPA. The staff did not do anything to address the bunch in a constructive way, and it was a horrible way to end the evening. Will NOT ever be returning. The manager called me and apologized, but offered no other solution. Best Wine Bar in Ottawa!

I’ve been to a few wine bars in Ottawa, and many of them have this fear of carbs gracing their menus, I personally do not enjoy Seamoss mousse with my Merlot. However, Vespa (and Ara specifically) has RESTORED my faith in wine bistro culture within the nations capital. And their “not your nonna’s zucchini” are simple and delicious. But you cannot go wrong with anything on their menu.

Ara’s timing, and wine recommendations. (and knowledge) were on point and made the evening feel very enjoyable and not rushed. It was my sisters birthday and went above and beyond to make the dinner just that much more special. Thank you Vespa...

I rarely do reviews, however, I feel I absolutely HAVE to do a review on Vespa Wine Bar! After a very stressful week, my partner and I decided to get out and try some place new, we chose the Vespa Wine Bar. We walked in and was immediately greeted by the owner…..and seated. I’ve been in the food and beverage industry for 20+ years and I know it can get crazy busy, you just hope that craziness does not affect the service. The restaurant was full, yet we felt as though we were the only ones there! Our server, Elenor, knew the menu inside out and any questions we had were answered. Her recommendations were PERFECT, The caesar salad, was by far the best I’ve ever had. The pizza, dessert and specialty coffee was delicious too! I’m sure you are all thinking (as maybe I would) that I’ve exaggerated my experience there….I can assure you, I’ve never been there before, and only met the owner when we arrived there, for the first time, last night. I was just there for drinks for a friends birthday. When we arrived, we sat down to dirty wine glasses and cutlery. We aren’t picky people so the fact that we noticed was a shock. We then ordered a glass of wine each to test to see which bottle we wanted. When I ordered I ordered the Raymond Classic. At the time I had just noticed this being a white wine. When it came, it was the red. I didn’t send it back because I was happy to try but I felt that at a wine bar, the server should have asked to clarify especially since the rest of the group got white. We proceed to then order a bottle of white and she brought the wrong one to the table and when we politely reminded her it was a different one she argued before changing it. She brought the correct bottle for us not in a chiller and didn’t let anyone taste it first before pouring all of our glasses. We aren’t super picky again but for being a wine bar, we expected wine etiquette. We felt rushed and as if we were interrupting every time we needed something. Overall...
