Well known around Peterborough - and other reviewers have commented - for their excellent prices on meat, including deli meats which can be 1/2 the price or less of the major local competition. A very good selection of a variety of products - from produce, to meat, bread, dairy, snacks and staples. However, on products that are wildly marked down - and even on a few others - check the best before dates. While I understand and appreciate that Canadian "best before" dates are controversial - because most of the time the product is still perfectly fine, and the dates contribute to a lot of needless waste - on some occasions the date has been enough more than I am comfortable with, particularly if it is a product that I would not use frequently; in most cases, though, some of the seriously marked down items that are best before last week, for example, are a fantastic buy for someone who is going to use up the product quickly.
Some of the staff could do with instruction and training on customer service and general friendliness and pleasantness. This, however, has to come from the top down and the most of the managers are the worst offenders as far as unpleasantness, surliness and unhelpfulness. So, unfortunately, in the case of general staff who seem to have taken a lesson from management, it isn't very likely they will change until the management changes. The deli staff and deli manager have always been very friendly, and I always make a point to stop and say hello to them even if I'm not buying anything at the deli on that trip. The owner should consider promoting the deli manager to...
Read moreI come here specifically for my fave brand of bread, plus deli meat and dairy. For years they had one of the area's best prices for milk, eggs and yogurt but sadly, the prices for everything have skyrocketed (as every other store has as well). But to go from $.69 to $.89 then to $.99 now $1.09 - Mar 2023 so quickly - sure it doesn't sound like much but as we all know: it all adds up. The poultry & meat here are decently priced. One thing to be careful of is expiry dates - many products have either expired or are close to expiration. That doesn't necessarily mean its inedible but it's got limited shelf life for sure. So always check exp dates. As far as other groceries that one may pick up when they're in the store for meat or dairy, its pretty expensive.
So, big Pluses: Locally owned; best bread at decent price; fairly priced meat & dairy; and if you're lucky, next door Burger King is charbroiling burgers so the smell is heaven. Also most of the cashiers are very nice.
Negatives: rising prices; expensive non sale stuff and expired or close to expire foods. Would I reccomend Farmboy? Yes. With a heads up about...
Read moreFarmboy Market in Peterborough ON is always a pleasure to visit. This grocery store in not huge, so you can be in and out fast. It has a great selection of fresh and frozen meat, fresh hamburger, steaks, roasts, chicken, pork and some fish. The fresh vegetable, fruit, and berries aisle has become bigger, and dry goods and canned good essentials are also available. Big Deli. Dairy products, icecream and frozen foods. Bread products yes, but no gluten free bread yet. Sales on prepackaged deli meat can be found here sometimes, but check the best before date. In the warmer months, they have a huge and beautiful selection of garden flowers in pots, hanging baskets, and flowers for your garden. Fresh grown herbs, seeds, and soil too. Their prices are usually less at Farmboy than other stores. The cashiers and staff are helpful and friendly 😀 When parking, it is best, and easier, to enter the parking lot to the right, near the Farmboy entrance. Then exit, by driving around the building at the back to the left, to exit at the traffic light. Our family have been customers of Farmboy for...
