I can understand the increase in prices considering the inflation. But I was surprised to see the amount of food we were served for $10 breakfast. Had ordered a regular 3 eggs served with potatoes and rye toast. The amount of potatoes in my plate didn’t bother me. It was half the amount of the previous customer’s photo (Nadia’s Review). But the size of the toast was bothersome. Our breakfast was served when I had left the table to wash my hands. When I noticed the toast and brought it to their attention. The waitress who hadn’t served said she will get me more toast instead of switching the ones in my plate which I hadn’t touched. She must’ve told our server. I believe her name was Amanda. She came to table saying she heard there was an issue with the order. I mentioned it to her. To my surprise she asked if I wanted to pay more to get more toast. All selected toasts were rye. I understand rye toast comes in different sizes in a bag. But please don’t serve the end pieces to your customers and expect them to be ok.
In response to wanting to pay more I said, no. “But I would like for you to switch what I have in my plate.” The server said “she will have to check with the kitchen”. Finally she showed up with one extra toast. I wish I had taken pictures to post if I knew this experience was going to be so sour. We had also paid extra $2.99 for extra toast. Same story, tiny pieces. A bagel from Tim hortons seemed like a better option at that point.
I paid the bill and left quietly. Later, called the place to speak to a manager about the experience. He was too busy. Left the complaint with the person who had answered the call. He didn’t seem to care. No customer service skills. Basically customer service is too much to ask for these days. They just want you to show up and pay them what they ask for and leave. Will definitely consider taking our...
Read moreSorry, I had to post this as I initially held back posting this the last time I was at this location for a Sunday breakfast.
After reading "Artifactual Finds" review from 2 weeks ago, some 18 months after I stopped taking my family to this Sunset Grill location for the abusive behaviour from the owner towards his cooking staff employees. I cannot believe this is still going on after a year and half!
I witnessed this on at least 4 previous occasions when we used to go there weekly for breakfast.
The last time some year and half ago was the last straw and it was so bad that a thick skinned guy like myself was actually upset about what I heard coming from the owner in a supervisory role. He should be acting as a leader and not like some "little kid having a hissy fit ' , shame on you!
I have been in senior management for a company for over 30 years and I would never treat even an employee that I did not like in that way. He was yelling at them and throwing stuff around loud enough to overpower the noise of all the patrons in the restaurant on the busy Sunday morning.
Down right disgusting! You do not treat employees like this, there is Ontario Labour Law against this as this is what is called and classified as Workplace Harassment plain and simple.
As for the remainder of the serving staff, they always were friendly and helpful, the food was good, but over the three years that I patronized this location the prices rose about 20% and the portions strunk about 10%.
I have since changed to a long time east Scarborough restaurant where in the last 18 months since not coming back to Sunset Grill the portions are large and the price has not increased even once! Atmosphere is family friendly and we are again enjoying the family day out...
Read moreFunny I should read the review of this place with the waitress Debbie mentioned. I have gone here a few times with no complaints. Food was good, plentiful and atmosphere was pleasant. We went yesterday, and had the aforementioned Debbie. She got my boyfriends order completely wrong, which is curious as I had asked questions about his order before deciding on my own dish. When she served him a western and was told it was the wrong order, she got the correct order and told us a few minutes. At this time... I've received my breakfast and tried to wait...though it was hard to resist food! His correct order was a sunset sandwich, pemeal bacon, cheddar cheese and an fried hard egg sandwich. (The waitress answered this when I inquired earlier) not only did his corrected order take another 10 minutes... (sandwich??!!) But it did not come as she described. It had an omlette style egg in it... ? By this time I was done my meal... and my bf was pissed to have watched me eat and now I should watch him. Not only that but I had to go to work and we did not have the time to eat individually. He refused his order by the time it came. Debbie immediately brought us the bill and threw it down without a word...she seemed pissed.... Understandably but when I still tipped her $2.50+ on my bill, a thank you would have been curtious. At this point.... I'd either go when Debbie wasn't working, or just find another...
