We've visited Quebec several times and have found that many of the restaurants in the tourist areas are loud and offer similar fair. Far too often French fries fill a large area of the plate. We found Ciccio Café just a few minutes walk from our hotel. How refreshing!
Ciccio Café is a small restaurant on a side street with about a dozen tables inside. We were immediately seated and well attended. We could see the dishes were delivered to the tables steaming hot and ours was no different. The menu has an ample selection of pasta and meat dishes.
I had the Fettucini au Saumon Fumé; the sauce, composed mostly of cream and tomato had a wonderful salmon flavor, although the salmon content was minimal (It is a pasta dish, not a meat dish). I savored every forkful. My wife and son both ordered Fettucini Alfredo. My son has very limited likes and "Mac and Cheese" or a grilled cheese sandwich are his usual restaurant choices. He loved the perfectly creamy (cream, butter, parmesan) sauce. We were supplied a generous basket of bread and it was replaced when we emptied it.
It was such a pleasure to enjoy a meal where people were dining quietly, at their leisure. Background music volume was set just loud enough to contribute to the atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and...
Read moreThe bread was served cold. I read a review about that before going and the owner rebutted that the bread is not. Well, it was. But that's fine. If the rest of the meal was good, I would still be positive. It was not.
The wine selection was good and fairly priced, but that's where the dinner experience should have stayed. The food was mediocre. The reviews promised good food and portions. The carbonara was bland and more alfredo than carbonara. Spaghetti with cream and cheese. Nothing flavorful. Not creamy, just sticky. No egg and not fresh pasta. I am sure it came from a jar. The pasta was dried and Costco quality. Over cooked. The Ossobuco was average served with very bland egg noodles. Save yourself the disappointment. Find another place to go.
I was responded to by the owner but instead of trying to improve the food quality, simply insists it's my negative reviews. Should have looked deeper as there are many positive reviews. Saw similar tact in other responses, and the place has great potential, but not there currently. Focus on fixing the food and you'll have a wonderful restaurant and get...
Read moreWOW! check this place out. Went about 5pm and without reservations but they were still able to fit us in. It was very comfortable and had a homey amazing vibe! I got the eggplant parm appetizer and 10/10(MUST TRY and honestly everyone could get one because I didn’t wanna share haha). We got the spicy linguine/spaghetti and the linguine with mushrooms and red sauce. I forgot the exact names but all dishes at our table were well seasoned and very tasty. Coming from America I will say this was probably the best service I’ve seen in a restaurant in a very long time. They had everything we needed and were beyond on top of it. Before you could think someone was aware and got it. Appreciated the small dining area. Cost was well worth it. The pubs I’ve been to in old Quebec have been way more expensive for not as good as food/experience. I think cost for two people was $70 with huge meals and wine for one. Only tip is make a reservation because not huge amounts of table and it will be worth it! And street parking is sometimes annoying but...
