Griendel - Brasserie Artisanale (quartier Montcalm) — Restaurant in Quebec

Went to Griendel Brasserie Artisanale last night with a few friends. I rarely rate any restaurant with less than 5 stars, but this time I have to give a 3. It really did not meet our expectations. The place looks nice, the music was good, the beers were okay and that’s it. Food was ordinary to say the least and the service wasn’t super either. I understand that it was a slow Tuesday night, but we haven’t even finished our first beer before 7 and the waitress already came 5 times to ask for our order. We weren’t ready to order and the third time she even said « no worries, make a sign when you are » which we didn’t because she came back again a few minutes afterwards. When we were on our last beer, I wasn’t quite sure which one to have (they do have a big selection) and our waitress even joked saying « do you need thirty minutes for that also »? My friends laughed, I certainly didn’t. My burger was average and everything was mushy, the fries tasteless, my friend’s shrimp poutine had cold greens and cold shrimps on top, he did say his meal was good and my other friend had the pasta of the day (weird choice in a microbrewery in my opinion, but anyway)… you should have seen the size of the portion. He was insulted and so was I. I have never seen such a small portion… he had to eat a few hours later at home. Looked more like an appetizer than anything else. Speaking of which, the fried calamaris were good, probably the best thing I ate there yesterday. I saw an article saying is was the best brewpub food in Québec City, I have to disagree, it also quite expensive for...

Food we had was good, very limited menu with basic pub choices for lunch... although on the website and in house it is nowhere apparent that the full menu is only available after 5pm, which is a shame as we went to this place specifically for the menu. Beer was very good, bought some to take home. Big downside, (maybe a one-off) waitress was stand-offish, rude and cold towards us. She was very fake and somewhat condescending... I don't think we were rude or angry or anything so maybe she was just having a bad day.. Sadly we won't return as that, paired with not being able to have the menu (had we have known, we would have come back later, but waitress only told us after we had ordered beer that there was a smaller menu for lunch.. not even written on their chalkboard) left a bad taste in our mouths.

The outside patio is just perfect on s warm night. The beers were excellent as well. IPA guy and was surprised by all the really tasty micro brew IPA's in Quebec City, and Griedel had some of the best. Service was wonderful and servers very friendly. Would absolutely visit again.

Edited for additional info from owner - On a bit of a side note, my wife was able to see into the parking lot where the dumpster is and saw at least 4 different couples come out with various food items that the restaurant must have thrown out. Bag of oranges, onions etc. Turns out this was the supermarkets dumpster not the restaurants, still sad to see.
