For starters, I came here based on a few recommendations I saw online and also from the reviews on google. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating despite the fact I only speak English and no French. From a taste perspective, the food and drinks taste good although the flavouring isn’t overpowering and perhaps a little bit bland, feel free to add salt as needed; you can think of the meals presented with a touch of home cooking style. Pictured is the soup of the day, the lasagna, the cabbage rolls, and the cider. The prices are quite fair as well given the portion sizes, although do note that due to the limited amount of staff, you may have to wait a little bit of time although that’s reasonable given the number of tables compared to the number of staff. The only complaint I have is the fact that when I brought my takeout back to eat, I found a piece of pink/purple plastic when I scooped a spoonful out of my cabbage rolls and bit into them; the texture of the plastic was very hard and I’m not sure how it got into the cabbage rolls. Unfortunately due to this, I wouldn’t be able to give a high review considering the piece of plastic was quite large and could be a safety concern for somebody who could potentially be intoxicated on a night out with drinks while eating at the same time. Otherwise, I would say it’s worth it to come by to try it once if you’re in the area as long as you’re cautious when...
Read moreA hidden gem!!!!! My find of the month, my recommendation for anyone who's not snobby. If you favor laughs over looks and fun over ego-flattering, this is your spot. No nonsense place with super friendly staff, comfort food, comfy seating, great ambience, games including old-school NES and board games. Has Wi-Fi, good music which was not that loud during the day (just right); so great for relaxing or studying. Price was almost too cheap, I had a 13$ tab (tax included) for a wonderful soup, two grilled cheese sandwiches AND dessert WITH table service. (In perspective: The day before I had a crappy sandwich with coffee and a donut at a trendy coffee place, 18$ pre-tip) This place is good for a quick bite, good to hang out at, good for a few relaxed drinks, good for kids too, and it would be good for a date if you're not the fancy or upscale type. This is 1/3rd the price of nearby Maelstrom and 10x less pretentious, plus they serve actual food and don't aggravate your ears with loud music at 3:30 PM. Go there instead. (Unless you wear lumberjack shirts but haven't ever felled a tree and call yourself a DJ because you mushed 3 songs together with FruityLoops and played it for 17 millenials at a secret invite-only party in a modern...
Read moreMeh. We were on vacation from the US and had just arrived to Quebec hungry and tired after a long drive. Staff was busy preparing for a comedian show due to start within an hour. However the woman who seemed to be in charge of running the kitchen (not cooking) could have been more attentive in letting us know where to sit, helping with the menu, and taking our payment. We felt more like we were in the way than welcomed in. I got the Brie and apple croque monsieur, my older son got the nachos, my husband got the pâté chinois — all fine and good portions (we do not like typical American large portions, these meals were perfect for us). My younger son got the grilled cheese sandwich with sausage. Tasted fine but nothing amazing, not even as good as we make at home and it was so small we each had to share part of our meal with him and then find more food for him at another restaurant. I will say that I was amazed that one person who seemed to be doing the majority of the cooking in an extremely small kitchen (smaller than most homes) was able to get out so much food so quickly. The food was mostly good, but we’ve been to so many places in Canada with such friendly people that we would probably not...
