When I called to place my order, I was told they would not do substitutions on combo meals because they were busy at the time. I fail to see how being busy would mean they could suddenly not do a substitution. If it was a general rule that they did not do substitutions, that's one thing, but clearly it is something they would do if the restaurant were "quiet". It just seemed odd, but I thought little of it and ordered different food instead. I was told there would be a half hour wait until pickup.
I arrived just before the half hour was up, and was prepared to wait another 5 or so minutes for them to finish up (most similar restaurants I've been to quote 20 minutes even if they're busy), but ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes. 45 minutes to prepare a small order (3 combination plates)? That seemed a bit excessive, but again I figured if the food was amazing, then it is all have been worth it.
But alas, the food was only mediocre. Nowhere near the best Chinese food I've had, even if you discount hakka versions. The food was not very flavourful, and seemed dry (although I'm willing to attribute the dryness at least partially to my 20 minute drive home).
The one it positive thing I will say about Golden Wok is that their egg rolls are quite a bit larger than typical for their genre...
Read moreExtremely disappointed. I asked the waitress what almond chicken was and that it could have a different name. She said oh. Its this one. Pointed to the menu and asked if i wanted veggies. I said if thats what it comes with. Drove home with dinner realized i didnt get the almond chicken in my bag. Also checked and found out almond chicken is soo guy. Not what she told me. So i go back and explain. She argues with me about. Saying that's what i ordered. Um yes. Because you said thats what almond chicken was. So i aaked for a discount or something because they forgot an order completely and i had to drive back in. 30 minutes of my time . They refused even tho i explained i had to drive back because they forgot a dish i paid for. Right or wrong they forgot it and i drove 30 minutes total to get it. May seem trivial to many. But this isnt very good customer service. And the little girl that was arrogant about it needs to learn her menu before arguing with customers about something SHE said was what i was talking about. The food was very much below the standard i had received there before. I will never return there. always check to make sure you get what you order...
Read moreWe tried the food here for the first time last year. I left a scathing review about the amount of grease and lack of taste. Since Taishan Garden has gone downhill since new owners took over we have been at a loss as to where to have decent Chinese food. So tonight we decided to give this place another try. This place always seems busy so we thought that perhaps we jumped the gun with our opinion.....I mean, NOT everyone in Trenton could have bad taste could they??? Well, it turns out that grease and tasteless food is the norm here. Seriously, I can't fathom the number of people who frequent this place think that they know what quality food SHOULD taste like. Let me enlighten your palet....... this is below substandard. Mushroom fried rice that was gray in color and the closest thing to a mushroom was the miniscule crumb that accidentally fell into it. There was no room for mushrooms due to the over abundance of peas and carrots.....uggggg. Should have been called pea fried rice. The sweet and sour sauce was like glue . If I could rate this a zero i would. Don't waste your money . Simply put...
