I have been really wanting to try this place out for a while now. So me and the wife decided to finally go. I ordered the Red Braised Pork Tender Bone on Rice which was actually really good. It was truly tender and delicious, the egg on top is a nice touch when the yolk spreads over rice. We also ordered the curry snacks and chose the curry pork rind and curry beef tripe. The curry sauce was tasty, the pork rind was soft and crispy and the tripe was cooked the way I like it which is firm texture but in a good way. Finally the dish I had been desiring to have above all, the reason I truly wanted to come here which is the soup. What a disappointment this soup was. The broth was very good we chose Chaozhou style dried fish and minced pork fish soup , very tasty. he marinated soft boiled egg was delicious, Th disappointment came from the noodles. We chose the rice noodles and it came so soft and mushy. I like my noodles to be Al dente, to have some spring in it when I bite. These noodles were over cooked. The lychee drink was refreshing. The staff were nice only issue was the language barrier but other than that no problems. Food came out quick and portion was good. Great bang for buck. Clean place and quiet atmosphere. Definitely would go back and try something else but still order the red...
Read moreI went to the Richmond Hill location with some friends today after work, and the service was some of the worst we have experienced from any restaurant.
First of all, they charge a flat fee of $0.50 to use their baby booster seats, which is completely unacceptable. I've never heard of a restaurant doing this sort of practice.
Additionally, the waitress was extremely strict on the number of small sugar packets each of us were allowed to take for the hot drinks that come with our food combo. The waitress kept emphasizing how we can only take 1 small packet per drink. I took two packets, and the waitress started showing us attitude right away.
As if the service was bad already, the food was just mediocre. I ordered the tomato and pumpkin soup base with sliced beef briskets, and beef tendons. When I read that the briskets were sliced, I wasn't expecting them to be these huge chunks of meat. When asking the waitress about it, she showed us attitude and said the chef probably just forgot to cut it. The beef tendon was the worst, they were completely covered in fat, and were liquified like wet jello! If you're expecting some solid beef tendons, you will be sorely disappointed.
We gave a smaller tip in the end, and the waitress demanded why we didn't give a higher tip. Well,...
Read moreWent to Deer Garden many times before but this time we found a disgusting fly in my wife's soup at the end of the meal. Mind you we had 3 orders of noodles for a family of 3 adults, I think it'd be completely reasonable to expect the restaurant to compensate our meal after finding an entire fly in one of our orders.
When we went to show this to the manager at the front, he not only did not even offer an apology, he had the audacity to just offer a free drink like it was the smallest of mistakes. After realizing we wouldn't accept a drink, he says he'll only refund for the order with the fly in an extremely rude way as if he's doing us a favour. It felt like we had to bargain to even get him to refund our money for one order, much less three.
I was willing to accept the fly in soup mess as maybe a one time mistake and wouldn't leave a bad review if they apologized and refunded our meal. The whole lack of remorse or desire to make things right to a regular customer left a worse taste in our mouth than the actual fly (believe it or not).
Just a warning to other customers, if this is how cheap the manager/owner is in regards to a situation where the restaurant is completely in the wrong, just imagine what kinds of shortcuts and they take in preparing and...
