The prices are reasonable with discounts. But if the prices were higher, I would not pay that price for this type of food. We ordered 5 dishes late lunch for 2 people and paid about $47 with tax and tips after the $18 discount - original price would have been almost $70 with tips for 2 adults - one senior one adult. That's like $35 per person for 5 dishes - without discount is too pricey for this type of dishes. I would pay for quality sashimi but not this at $35 per person. However, the dishes were different from other restaurants, you can taste that there is extra time put in the ingredients for preparation. For example, the beef balls with mandarin peels, you can really taste the slight hint of mandarin peels that is very nice in this dish - different from your regular Chinese restaurant beef ball dim sum. Also the "mixed chicken" the peanuts are actually crunchy which requires toasting and not just putting peanuts from a bag. The tea was good like any other Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't say it's one of the best Chinese restaurants in Richmond, but it stands out on its own with his distinctive kind of ways the ingredients are cooked "SHUNDE style". The atmosphere was clean and casual, not crowded but in a business sense, waste of space for the big round tables that can see may more people if they were movable 2 person rectangular tables - may want to think about this to increase seating. Also not sure if they do delivery, but delivery is a must to increase profit including the big four -door dash, Uber eats, fantuan, and hungry panda. Also increase sales with Groupon and perhaps summertime work out some deals with travel agencies that do buses for Chinese visitors. It was not busy on Saturday late lunch which is a bad sign after opening for 9 months. Within 2 years most businesses close...hope they will make it and be around...
Read moreShunde (顺德) is renowned for its distinctive Cantonese cuisine. Friends recommended A Bite of Shunde in Richmond, so we came to try their flavours, ingredients, and menu. The restaurant offers a nice variety of dishes, accompanied by photos, making ordering easy.
Here’s what we tried and loved: 🥢 Shunde Lo Chicken (顺德捞鸡) – Chicken was soft, umami-rich, and beautifully presented. The fun part is mixing the ingredients yourself. 🦀 Steamed Treasure Crab with Minced Pork (酱汁蒸珍宝蟹) – Pork was tender and flavorful, perfectly paired with the crab. The sauce was light and balanced. 🍢 Crispy Tofu with Gold Brick (金砖脆皮豆腐) – Golden, crispy outside and silky inside. So indulgent. 🥛 Double-Skin Milk Custard (双皮奶) – Smooth, creamy, and iconic. A must-try dessert!
Overall, the food was very good with balanced flavours and beautiful knife skills. The staff were friendly, but the service was a bit slower due to staff shortages. There’s still room to improve, but we enjoyed our visit.

Read moreThe owner is very nice and constantly strives to improve their food and service.
I would highly recommend anything with fish in it, such as fish soup, fish stew, and pan-fried fish.
The lobster is very fresh, but the taste is just so-so, and its presentation needs improvement.
We had the same issue with shrimp fried rice as mentioned in another comment, but they have fixed it.
Being located on the second floor may put them at a disadvantage.
Most of the food tends towards the mild side in terms of flavor, which might not appeal as much to younger people who often prefer spicy, crunchy, or more elaborate flavors. It's not quite clear which market segment they are targeting; they may need to adjust to cater more to their target audience's tastes and increase their promotional efforts.
P.S.: It's on the pricier side, though. The seafood is very fresh and not bad, but considering the price, the restaurant needs to put more effort into the food to truly justify it, considering its competing...
