Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant
Location: 4751 Garden City Rd, Richmond, BC V6X 3M7
We decided to visit Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised by the experience.
Appetizer: Chopped Scallop with Tobiko and Mayo
We started with the chopped scallop mixed with tobiko and mayo, which proved to be an exceptional appetizer. The flavors were well-balanced, and the dish had a delightful texture. The only minor suggestion would be to increase the amount of dried seaweed on the side to enhance the presentation and add an extra layer of flavor.

Main Courses:
Beef Don
The Beef Don was a standout dish, featuring thinly sliced beef simmered with tender onions in a savory-sweet sauce. The seasoning was impeccable, and the beef was cooked to perfection, making it a truly satisfying meal.
Unagi Don
The Unagi Don was another highlight, consisting of steamed white rice topped with grilled eel fillets. The eel was well-cooked, maintaining a good meat-to-skin ratio, and was enhanced by a sweet soy-based marinade. While the dish was enjoyable, I have experienced more flavorful versions at other Japanese restaurants.

Ambiance: The ambiance was acceptable but a bit loud for a relaxing dining experience. The decor was simple and functional, fitting the restaurant’s casual dining theme.
Service: The service was prompt and generally efficient, though slightly unorganized. Multiple servers attended to our table, resulting in instances where our teacups were filled while still full. Additionally, the staff spoke to us in their native language, which could be confusing for some patrons. However, their overall attentiveness and friendliness were appreciated.
Rating: 7 out of 10
Price: The pricing of the dishes we tried was reasonable. However, we did not sample the higher-priced items on the menu, so we cannot comment on the value of those options.
Verdict:
We would definitely consider returning to Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant, as there are many other dishes we are eager to try. The overall dining experience was pleasant, with a few minor areas for improvement.
Advice: When driving, don’t forget to register your car plate number to the greeter inside the restaurant when parking to avoid any...
Read moreService was truly personable, pleasant and cheerful. The servers were great with their food suggestions and quick on the service despite the dinner rush hour. The manager moved us to a bigger table once there was enough room (we went on a Sunday and the wait was nearly out of the door, busy as usual!). Tea was served immediately, nice and hot green tea.
We ordered shareable dishes that were so fresh and delicious, like the deep fried squid tentacles, seared salmon nigiri, grilled short ribs (I had to order seconds because of the quality in taste, it was really good), prawn tempura, deep fried chicken skin, chicken gizzards, seared toro nigiri, ebi sunomono, Oyster motoyaki (really delicious), and last but not least for dessert we got a scoop of the house green tea and mango icecream. I had to get seconds because one scoop wasn't enough!
It was definitely worth the time and money spent when you're eating quality seafood, meat and served with smiles each time. The overall experience was a delight, and the food just knocked my favorite Japanese places out of the ball field. I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes on the menu. Take a risk and try something new on their chefs daily special menu! There was no dish I was disappointed in as the consistency in flavor of each meal makes you excited about their entire menu. 10/10, would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for great quality in seafood, beef and Japanese cuisine.
I'd recommend you to book ahead for reservations to skip the wait, and there are Japanese style booths for bigger parties (can take up to 20 people). Thank you for the delicious meal, Japanese experience and exceptional...
Read moreWe're so spoiled with mid to decent sush in metroVan that it's a little shocking when you get your socks knocked off at an hour of the day when it's cheeseburgers or the no.9 for late night, after airport food.
The Katsu was one of the best I've sampled outside of Tokyo, a yuzu/salmon/flounder/avacado seasonal roll was exceptional. It's very easy to just toss gomae at a plate: it was artfully presented, perfectly blanched and seasoned, sweetness not overpowering. Once the menu loaded onto my phone I started to feel like a jet lagged idiot for rolling up in my post vacation airport clothes... This is the kind of spot where it's worth phoning in to book the pre order dishes. I regret not trying the servers prawn recommendation. I'm a little surprised this place wasn't packed with influencers taking food pictures, even at this hour. The QR code set up a free random appetizer: it's been a hot minute since I've seen anyone put ahi sashimi grade tuna in Maki: usually this is reserved for much lower quality cuts... The green onion was so fine and not over powering. As much as I enjoyed a week and change of ceviche in Mexico, sushi like this reminds me why I put up with gloomy clouds and absolutely bananas cost of living in Vancouver. This is a date night spot. The service was absolutely lovely. I normally could not be bothered to venture past Stem for a proper omakase. This is worth it. Bring friends, book ahead for dinner hour, but perhaps also consider coming in late on a week night... Just maybe not in your beach clothes in the middle of...
