Shawarma 2 Go Grill — Restaurant in Richmond

I have been waiting for Shawarma 2 Go’s opening for quite a number of months. Going in with zero expectations I am pleasantly surprised.

The restaurant and layout is modern, professional and welcoming. When I arrived I was greeted by the owners Hala and Isam; the couple couldn’t be welcoming. It is honestly nice to see owners care about their restaurant, train and oversee their staff.

The ordering and layout is similar to that of Al Basha and Uncle Sal’s. One might think there is some relation there and lo and behold there is a lot of history there. The owners have had a major influence on this style of food in the lower mainland for years.

Comparing this restaurant to the others the quality control, presentation and cleanliness is at another level.

I ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate which included a large portion of rice, chicken, hummus which was a thicker consistency and salad tailored to your liking.

I found the chicken flavourful and tender, not too crispy/charred like some other places, rice a good consistency, salad fresh without any suspect lettuce and the hummus was tasty.

Food is good so it’s def worth going back although food is quite pricey given the portions you get.

Customer service is so so. Got my order wrong twice unfortunately (two days in a row). First time, the lady got the complete order wrong and added more food than I asked for (charged for all of it of course). I ended up telling the staff the next day and the lady didn’t say anything so I thought she didn’t hear me and I repeated it but she shrugged it off and didn’t say anything again just an “ok.”

Second time they got my order wrong I didn’t realize until I opened up the foil. I had to go back and tell them they got my order wrong again but no apology or anything. However they replaced it fairly quickly.

Now my favourite shawarma place in town! After moving from Ottawa I've been struggling to find any place that comes close to shawarma I'd been spoiled with there. I'd say Shawarma 2 Go meets and somewhat exceeds many of my favourite Ottawa places. The meat was excellently flavourful, and crispy from being grilled after shaved off the spit. Ive noticed some places in town dont use enough garlic in their hummus or toum, but this was perfect, very strong flavour. The salad and rice were both perfect, I especially appreciated the inclusion of pickled veg (turnips I think?) which seems to not be as common here as it was in Ottawa.
