This place has been around for a long time but I didn't have a chance to visit till now.
We came at around 11am and it was well stocked. They were still bringing things out but most spots were already filled with food. They have so many items if you have problems deciding what to eat, don't come here. You will be in here for HOURS. Believe me I wanted to get everything like bentos, pudding, sushi etc. But I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it all.
We ended up getting amaebi shrimp, yakisoba set, mini unagi don, croquette sandwich and fruits with white chocolate. The amaebi shrimp comes with sweet shrimp, scallop and marinated tuna. This was definitely worth it for 10$. The shrimp was really sweet and so was the scallop.
The yakisoba set has yakisoba as well as glutinous rice and chicken karaage. If we had microwaved this, this would have tasted amazing. Even without microwaving it was already delicious. The glutinous rice was perfectly cooked and flavoured well with pieces of chicken. The yakisoba was really addictive with notes of sweet and sour. The chicken karaage wasn't crispy but it wasn't dry or overly coated with batter either.
The mini unagi don was worth it. It doesn't look like a lot of unagi but if you want to try everything like me this set is perfect. The unagi was so well grilled. It had that burnt carmalized flavour and the unagi was crunchy and had a bite to it. It wasn't overly sweet and the rice went so well with this.
I had the hardest time debating between choosing the croquette sandwich, egg sandwich or the tonkatsu sandwich and I settled on croquette sandwich since you can't find it everywhere. This had fresh cabbage in it which helped cut through the heaviness if the croquette itself. The sauce made it really addicting. I love that the croquette bread they grilled both side with butter but I wished that the milk bread they used was fluffier and a bit thicker.
The fruits and white chocolate sandwich was so fluffy and made for such a perfect ending. It was a little sweet due to the white chocolate and the fruit already being sweet to begin with. The kiwi, strawberry, grape and orange were all really sweet and the fluffy bread with cream made for a satisfying finish.
I would definitely go back to try their other boxes - eyeing those bentos and sushi. This will definitely become a staple on my way to Steveston from now on or just when I'm craving cheap and delicious...
Read moreA cozy, clean, AUTHENTIC Japanese sushi restaurant actually run by Japanese people. I believe it was started by a Japanese family, not sure about the ownership now, but either way they're doing a great job running the business efficiently.
Above average quality, you can really taste the ocean with their fish Slightly below average size & quantity, it's noticeable Slightly above average price, I gotta spent above $20+ to be full
Overall it's a worthwhile experience. After eating their food you feel more clean than bloated, which is a downfall of many other sushi joints around town. The food here is not greasy or fatty at all. The rice has an excellent sticky, soft, grainy texture, it definitely stands out as above average
Service wise, the staff are very polite, prompt and discreet. They have lineups here however they noticeably never get overwhelmed, they are extremely efficient at what they do. The menu is as easy to understand as the food is to digest. Their Teriyaki is another dish that is both unique and very memorable.
In terms of scenery, it's in between small to medium space wise. They just recently completed a renovation. The restaurant is clean and classy, although nothing overly extravagant, it's definitely no hole in the wall or over crowded with clutter. Pretty relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Lots of parking in the plaza & u have the option to eat in or take out.
I would recommend this to anyone in the neighborhood or anyone who's in the mood for a quality, authentic Japanese sushi experience in a laid back, clean and comfortable setting. Some say that this is the best sushi restaurant in Richmond and to be honest, I haven't eaten at enough Sushi restaurants in town to be sure (since there are so many of them to choose from). However based on the authenticity, quality and level of service that I have consistently experienced at this location over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if it truly were the best or at the very least one of the...
Read moreI used to love this place when they first opened. Then I loved it less and now moreso even less. If you’re Japanese you probably won’t write about here. However who more better than to write a review about Japanese food? If you see the reviews here only a few Japanese descendants have written a review here. There’s a reason. Much like if you’ve noticed that the average review is not as good as they used to be. Something has changed and obviously they don’t care about reviews written here. I understand, and they have their system. Food prices are getting higher and even suppliers are changing. But you still can’t skimp on ingredients or take away the flavour. The average customer here doesn’t really know real Japanese food. Especially the ones that give them 5 stars to this day. Some reviews may even be fake?!!…. Having said that, you won’t find real Japanese coming here. I’ll go elsewhere. My Japanese food critique as well and all our other friends. Maybe it’s because we’ve collectively noticed changes that took away the appeal of what this place originally offered hence why many may think it is under new ownership. Mind you having said all of that. Their change to takeout Bento/kombini style food is good, the same dish you would get fresh isn’t always the same. It is fresher, but it could be different and I’ve heard of unexpected comments from friends and family. Maybe they need to tell...
