We have been avid supporters of 10 Acres in many of its incarnations and locations. We love the focus on local food and tradition. Unfortunately, our experience at the Cafe at the Sidney Pier was unerwhelming, to say the least. First, I was disappointed that coffee is served in cups and not mugs. I know that this is true of many cafes but I am sorry, coffee from a paper cup is just not what a proper coffee experience should be. It really blows my mind that establishments that put their passion for coffee as their self proclaimed goal, fail at the most basic element, serving coffee in a proper, ceramic vessel. The other bewildering piece of this is that paper cups cost more than cups in the long run. A one-time investment into a dishwasher and cups is needed and that's it! So, it's not about the cost. Not to mention the environmental impact. Apologies for the rant but please, please, bring back ceramic mugs! I know I am not the only one who compains about this.
One last item, the orange and cranberry cookie was just, well, awful. I am not sure if someone screwed up the dow but the cookie was hard and tasted like glue. Nowhere close to the quality of other baked goods in the cafe

Read morePoor management!!! Took friends there from out of town, but our day was cut very short . Accidents happen, I do not blame the new waitress . She was very nervous and very sorry,, helped the best she could. Unfortunelty she spilt a full beer and drink on us, I got the worst of it. Couldn't get out of the way fast enough, although we did try. I was soaked, had to go wash off my arms ,legs, feet, my skirt was soaked, my shoes were soaked. I smelt like a brewery, needless to say as soon as we finished our lunch, we had to go home to shower and a change of clothes. We were compensated a drink each 3 for our trouble, our whole lunch should have been covered :( My husband was not happy hearing about my day, told me write a review . I said I could call them back about it first, no one has returned my call. So here is my review , not happy and would never go back. Management should how to take care of their guest for repeat customers, especially local ones, word of mouth...
Read moreHi, went here today, seated my wife, and promptly walked into a heavy umbrella support that was knee high and no umbrella in it. While waiting in line, I spoke to an employee, young dark haired lady about the obvious safety hazard. I got the tape" I'm so sorry...." Again I pointed out that other people were going to walk into it as it was just not visible. I was then told it was for umbrella's and was not going to be moved. I replied , so your not going to do anything about it? and was told she did not appreciate being spoken to about this issue. What can I say? no empathy for the customers safety here and a rude young employee who I thought might have appreciated a safety observation from a x-employee from a safety role with a large BC employer.
