service was ok, not enough smiles though. i agree with other reviewers the prices are high even with the current staff shortages and food cost increase, these food items are priced based on high end quality, and none of the products used, bread, meats... the presentation nor preperation were worthy of the price unfortunatley. sure hope they are paying 25 per hour to staff to charge so much for their homemade brews and deli sandwiches with potato chips? beer options were not to my tastes so had a cider wich was ok from local cider company i think, my partner had beer and it was mild but o.k (just not our thing but not that it wasnt good, just not to his tastes) this was our second attempt and the lights were again way to bright for the time so felt like a hospital cafeteria. the place looks neat and clean wich is huge for us, we liked the seating closer to front, back area looks like an afterthought and less then welcoming and overall decor was still pretty drab/lacking and thought this time they would have upped their game since last visit was months ago. over all 3 stars because it has potential but i think the location has prob overpriced rent and the prices charged are paying for that more then quality and with no view its not worth the ocean front pricing. some buisness models dont work in certain climates or locations and this unfortunatley may be one of them. so recap; ocean front pricing with cafeteria style service and food quality. i hope they find a more suitable menu and make it warmer to the guest. wish them all the luck in our...
Read moreI’ve stopped into this brewery a number of times and have been very impressed with the food and beverage offerings, high level of service, and the overall atmosphere. It’s sort of a boutique brewery with a down-to-earth, laid back vibe.
I’ve tried at least a dozen+ different types of Small Gods beer and it’s all top notch. Sometime back, one of the brewers there invited myself along with a few others into the back for a quick tour. The brewery was very clean, lots of cool equipment/tanks, and all sorts of high-quality vacuumed sealed hops. It was comforting to take a look behind the curtain and see a very clean, organized and well run operations. Sometimes you wonder with all the craft beer on the market these days..
It’s hard to keep up with the beer at Small Gods with all the interesting new beers and collaborations that they’re always putting out… But lately I’ve been on the Aussi IPAs in a big way. It’s an excellent IPA. The PSL nitro stout is one I would like to try as well. Oh and really hoping to see the Oktoberfest beer again this fall season too. That was one of the best beers I’ve ever had.
Last thing I’ll mention (which I was really impressed by) is that Castelveltrano Olives were on the menu last time I was in …. and for a very reasonable price…those are hard to get at high end cocktail lounges and reputable Italian restaurants…. Very impressed and an indicator to me that Small Gods doesn’t cut corners on using high quality ingredients...
Read moreIn a word: exemplary. From concept to execution, Small Gods is a masterpiece.
First, the beer. Each variety is a textbook example of its style with the touch of a true artist to differentiate it from what other breweries are doing. Like the Promised Lands Hazy Pale Ale (gold medal winner at the 2023 CBAs), which packs all the juicy, tropical punch haze-heads know and love but at a restrained 4.8% ABV. And the Neverending Pilsner (another CBS award-winner), which is slow-poured from a side-pull tap, giving the appropriately pale golden lager a beautiful cloudy head.
Second, the space. Is it a New York-style deli? A cultural and literary hub? The perfect patio to soak up the sun? A family-friendly board game cafe? A gathering place for locals and visitors alike? Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes. From poetry readings to board game nights and free group runs, Small Gods is a true community hub with something for everyone.
Third, the food. Deli-style sandwiches stacked with meat and veggies. Savoury, crunchy, and gooey snacks. Just feeling peckish or famished to the point of hanger, Small Gods doesn’t disappoint with selection or serving size.
Finally, the service. Welcoming, personable, and knowledgeable staff, and lots of them. I arrived a stranger and left feeling like I was part of something.
Not even a year old, Small Gods has already claimed a well-deserved space in B.C.’s craft beer pantheon. Fingers crossed Sidney gives them the devotion...
