Subway — Restaurant in Smithers

The food is pretty much as good as per any Subways franchise however I have two things that made me to decide to no longer patronize this franchise despite it being the only one in my town. First, this franchise does not honour the e-gift cards that I retrieved from Visa Avion points. Yes part of the problem is that Subways corporate allows franchises to opt out of such programs, but this franchise has it come up when scanning the e-card as “not valid”. And then on the two times I tried to use the cards the staff did not or could not explain the truth, which is that the store owners don’t want to accept the cards. Finding out the truth took a few hours of my time. Also every time one checks out at the restaurant the tipping notice comes up, which while annoying has become common at many establishments; however at this place I noticed that the two times when I decided to mark “no tip” the reaction from the server was rude. Other times when I gave a small tip the server reacted also with a slight frown. But when I gave a big tip it was smiles. Shallow. I will still patronize Subways when travelling and away from my home town, but...

DISCLAIMER: In 2012, I provided a review that was less than flattering, and have not been back since. The owner ‘Avi’ contacted me and suggested that we try again since it has been under new management for quite some time, and the service structure has improved.

On National Sandwich Day (03Nov) we attended the Smithers Subway and found the staff to be friendly, smiling, and generally cheerful at their assigned tasks, despite the line that snaked out the door due to the special offering. This is only our first visit in a long time, but it will not be our last. The food was excellent, staff efficient, and overall a very pleasant experience. The big difference for us was that under the new management they adhere to the specials being offered at the National level, which was the main thesis of my original complaint. Parvin and Jely make a great team as sandwich artists, so be sure to say hi to them when you are in the store. This subway is surreal. Picturesque even. The mountains are simply breath taking and the food is mouth watering. When I imagine the perfect sandwich this exact restaurant comes to mind. It is perfectly crafted sand which with lovely costumer service. The sauces mix soothingly in my mouth and the crunch of my pickles excited my watering taste buds.
