I might be a little generous, but all things considered, I think that 3/10 is a relatively honest and accurate valuation for my first visit! I was there for/during their Happy-hour pricing, so I decided to take advantage of the items that were being promoted during that particular time-frame. I ordered a Coors-Light beer (on tap), which oddly, tasted "watered down"; I ordered a 2nd Coors-Light beer, which did not taste right either. With each of the beers, I ordered a side of clamato-juice. Strangely, the clamato-juices was served in two different styles of glasses, which took away from the "presentation" component. The first glass of clamato-juice came in the typical "hour-glass" style, while the second side of clamato-juice was served in a "high-ball" glass...This is not a deal-breaker, but the perception to me was that the bar runs with a "who-cares" attitude; I come from a background where experience taught me to deliver "Truly Outstanding" service, with consistency...That kind of service, coupled together with consistency results in Success. I went on to order a couple of food-items, one of which was Calamari. The Calamari, was VERY, VERY greasy/oily, probably the worst I've ever had...If this is typical of how greasy their Calamari is served, I would never order it again, nor would I ever recommend the Calamari to anyone. The container that the Calamari was served in, although a somewhat unique, cone-style container, made it awkward and aggravating to eat out of. The Tzatziki-sauce that accompanied the Calamari, was next-to-tasteless and the Tzatziki-sauce was presented in one of those small, black, plastic side-containers...The portion size of the Tzatziki-sauce, was laughably small, it should have been at LEAST four times the size. I also ordered a bucket-of-fries (Fries Before Guys Bucket, with the "Famous Garlic Dill Sauce"). Once again, the "Bucket", was VERY awkward to eat out of, to say the least...The "Famous Garlic Dill Sauce", came in those pre-packaged plastic containers, something that you may expect at McDonald's or A&W, but certainly not at a classier/upscale restaurant, of which St. Louis Bar & Grill is "trying" to be. The quantity of the "Famous Garlic Dill Sauce", was far from being an adequate amount...Sadly, I ended up eating most of the fries with Heinz Ketchup, which not surprising, was in a near-empty bottle on the table...Unfortunately, I have to add that the ketchup appeared "watery/thin", my tasting of the ketchup, confirmed that my eyes were correct in their observation. The quantity of the fries was much more than what I was expecting, so I would say that the value for the "Fries Before Guys Bucket" was definitely there. In my opinion, both dishes (The Calamari and the "Fries Before Guys Bucket"), should be served on a platter, not in containers that have an unnecessary height element to them...By making a customer have to fish around for the food contained therein, it becomes a customer, "Unfriendly" dining-experience. The Calamari dipping-sauce needs a major taste-overhaul; Once that is rectified, modifying the serving appeal of the dipping-sauce, could be easily enhanced, by NOT serving in those el-cheapo-style, plastic-containers...There are all kinds, shapes, styles and sizes of side-sauce dishes (Ceramic, stainless-steel, etc.). Using side-dishes with a little bit of class, would get more mileage than something found in the fast-food industry; The plastic significantly cheapens the entire food offering/presentation. As a tip for management, the "Famous Garlic Dill Sauce", is a far better dip for the Calamari, than it is for...
Read moreI had heard the radio ads about this place so often at work, but I never did bother to check it out—that is, until some of my friends from work said we should hang out sometime (as our schedules finally aligned) and I said hey, why don't we check out this place? When we got there, we were greeted by a boy who looked to be fourteen or so, I think. He was very welcoming and professional, and as someone who worked in a restaurant myself years ago, I know that he'll definitely be going places, if he has that kind of work ethic. I wish I had his name, so I could mention him properly, but if the folks who run this place happen to read this, give that kid some recognition, because he's great at his job.
We stopped by for the all you can eat wings deal—the young woman (IIRC, her name was Princess?) who was our server for the evening was also great. Very friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. Right off the bat, before we even ordered our food, we knew this was the right choice. We didn't take long to order our meal, and it didn't take too long, even though the place was modestly busy, to get our order. We tried a variety of the sauces, even the real hot ones, and enjoyed every bite. The food was delicious, and definitely worth every penny. I can't believe I didn't check this place out sooner!
It was great to catch up with old friends, even moreso with matching food and drink (if you've got a designated driver like I did, try the Devils Pint! I recommend it!). The service was great all night, and the decor was really comfy, too. Would've preferred the TVs having all baseball on, though, instead of golf (YMMV), but overall, we were all very happy with our experience, and are definitely recommending this location in particular.
Thank you, St. Louis Bar & Grill, for helping us make...
Read moreMy much better half and my wonderful children took me out to St. Louis Bar & Grill for my birthday. I have never been despite living so close. I was not expecting much from a small pub chain. They exceeded my expectations for sure.
We ordered: St. Louis Wings Chicago deep dish pizza (hot and honey sauce) 5pcs tenders meal with fries (St. Louis hot sauce) 1lb wings meal sub poutine add extra sub poutine (buffalo sauce) 2 pints beer 2 refillable soda pops I also asked for sides of the hot as hell sauce and St. Louis hot sauce Lastly they treated me to a free slider birthday cake (like an ice cream sandwich cake slice)
All the food was actually really really good. I was surprised. The portions were great without being so big that you worried they were cutting costs and quality to do it. The service was also really good. And on top of it, all that food above (where I have leftovers still) was only $90. Not at happy hour, not on wing Tuesday, full bore regular price. I rarely find going out to be reasonably priced but this was an exception.
I will most certainly be back. In fact I’m sending my teenager and his friends this weekend to tackle the $15 all you can eat angus burger deal 🙂.
My only two areas of improvement: Hot as hell sauce was fairly spicy but the flavour was just vinegary and had no real depth. Will not have that again unless it’s tweaked. A place with so much eating by hand should add automatic taps and the foot grab door opening thing. Hard to keep hands clean turning off taps and exiting bathroom. Or switch to paper towels instead of blow dryers. Either or.
Note: food pic not my pic. Did not get a chance to snap pics. Grabbed a pic of the all you can eat...
