The Savoy Room — Restaurant in St. Catharines

The decor is quite charming. very warm and cozy, with purposefully mismatched china sets. Service was kind.

The tea set itself left a bit to be desired. The savory tier was the best one, consisting of small sandwiches and mini quiches. The egg, salmon and tuna salad sandwiches were nicely done.

The salmon one was odd only because it was put in a dinner roll type thing and when we asked about it we were told it was a mini croissant, which it definitely was not anything close to other than shape. Cucumber sandwich was odd because they used raisin bread which completely overwhelmed the taste of cucumber and plain cream cheese and it wasn’t savory at all. The bite sized spinach and cheese quiches were cold and mostly crust that are reminiscent of grocery store tart crusts.

Dessert tier honestly did not feel house made, if they were perhaps it was more of a homemade quality than I’m used to at afternoon tea. E.g. mostly cookies like Hershey kiss thumbprint cookies, chocolate crinkle cookies, and pieces of After Eight chocolate. The mini butter and coconut tarts use the same crust as the quiches.

Scones were plain and raisin, and pretty unremarkable. Came with a small cluster of grapes though I would have preferred having a savory scone in its place instead.

Overall not a bad experience but I feel there’s better value to be had elsewhere. it’s a good choice if you want something more...

Wonderful experience at the Savoy Room with Augustino, he was very attentive, warm and welcoming. The food prepared by his family was delicious and exceeded expectations. The tea selection was great, a variety of non-caffeinated versions of regularly caffeinated teas (Non-caffeinated English Breakfast and earl grey). Will definitely be returning in the future whenever we’re in the area! I appreciated the reminder to bring our own takeout containers (although I still forgot them, will try to remember...

We went for Mothers Day High Tea. They were short staffed making the service slow (tea took 30 minutes, the tray of selections almost an hour) we were not in a hurry, but the reason for the 4* Good selection of sweet and savoury. The clotted cream and fresh jam was a nice touch, but I didn’t find all of the treats the freshest, or they have a drier baking style.
