Desi Grill Went at 6am for breakfast. We were the only people in the restaurant. Not surprising as it was early on a weekday. The restaurant was clean but quite dark upon entering. From the outside it looked to be closed. The front entry doors were ajar so we went on in. The music was playing so loud I could have sworn I entered a rave. I couldn’t hear the server from 2 feet away. We had to ask them to turn it down multiple times as they kept turning it up within a minute or two.
The options are limited as the menu is very different than what is posted on google reviews. The breakfast menu that was posted before was definitely better looking. Also buffet is not regular schedule but kinda ‘whenever‘.
The server also seemed nervous to make minor substitutions to their thali plates which we wanted to order but as we don’t eat rice we simply wanted naan. Other establishments are happy to do so. The inflexibility was disappointing as they were so minor and the curry offerings were fixed too. The chicken dishes had cubed pieces rather than bone-in pieces as one would have assumed. I have posted their menu to my review along with the 2 breakfast items we ordered.
I ordered the channa puri with curd (yoghurt), halwa and salad. My wife ordered the bhatura channa. My wife’s order came with curd although it’s not stated on the menu.
The orders came out and here’s my take. Food was good but the inflexibility on wanting to order additional food but sub minor things like flat bread instead of rice was off putting, as was the really loud music that one of the staff kept blasting unnecessarily. Atmosphere was unwelcoming almost hostile. Halwa was very good. The puri and battura were excellent and the channa was tasty however a bit spicy 🥵.
My wife’s dish was very good though the channa was spicy (🌶️ hot) and maybe not the best thing first thing in the morning. Lol. In any case eggs as an option would be nice to ease the palette. They have omelette on the menu but it is sandwiched between regular bread - and no adjustments available. Just eggs over easy was too much trouble.
We won’t go out of our way as there are several better places to eat...
Read moreIf there was a star less than 1, I would have given it. I haven’t had the food, and I’m sure it’s delicious, but this review is about the customer service.
I called to verify the meat providers to be sure it’s Halal and the manager I was speaking to became very rude. She reluctantly gave me the meat provider names. I then received a call back from her to add another meat providers name (which I appreciated because I thought this was very considerate and diligent of her) only to then be told that if I’m not satisfied I needn’t give them my business and that they don’t need my business and she then shut the phone on me.
I called later that evening to say that I did not appreciate this treatment at all, and that this is not the way to treat your customers at all. I have a right to ask about the meat providers to be sure myself that it is as it’s marketed - 100% Halal. I have a right to not just accept the “Halal” sticker on the restaurant door and to ask myself to be sure.
The manager boasted about being in the restaurant business in North America for 20+ yrs, yet she had no idea that there are restaurants that falsely advertise being Halal and there are also other restaurants that may be Halal at one point, then change meat vendors or owners and don’t update their customers. She continued to berate me about asking her these questions and refused to accept responsibility for her rude treatment. She refused to accept that as a potential customer I can ask these questions for my own peace of mind and it’s not to be taken personally. She argued constantly and kept telling me that I was in the wrong to ask as I did and that she is cautious about people who ask questions because of past experiences with competitors. She then tried to end the conversation saying she’s too busy and has many customers, without addressing my concerns or even so much as sincerely apologizing.
Because of the way this restaurant manager behaved, I wouldn’t recommend this place nor would I go...
Read moreJust ordered food for the first time from this store and I gotta say they really lived up to the 3.4 rating on Uber. Here's the full review -
Items ordered - Chat Papri, Chhole Bhature and Samosas
Samosas: These are the tiniest samosas I've ever seen in my life. I could wrap a finger around the whole thing. Also, it was oozing with oil and not fried properly. Not tasty at all. For $3 you could get 2 tasty samosas literally anywhere.
Chat Papri: Bland as hell, the tamarind sauce was watered down so it had no taste (no sweetness, no tanginess) and the yogurt had no taste either. I had to literally chew down on flavourless papri. For the same price, many other restaurants send some delicious chat Papri.
Chhole Bhature: will come back to review after having a taste.
The above two items were similarly priced as other restaurants however the portions were literally so small. And for the small portion I got, the taste was bad as heck too.
With the way the items were made and the portions sent. It's clear as hell that they are trying their best to cut costs both on quantity and quality.
The rating of 3.4 is undeserved, it should be lower than 3. I had no choice but to order from this restaurant in the morning as none of the other Indian places were open in my locality. Regret it.
Don't uber eats from here all in all. Maybe go in person and when you receive the bad food you can throw it straight...
