(Original rating 2/5) I've been here quite a few times now and I really like the butter chicken combo dish here. The paneer was also good. Not the best I've ever had but definitely hits the spot for when I'm craving Indian food.
The price is expensive for what it is but everything is expensive nowadays. I definitely think the food is worth it but the young servers here are terrible service. Seriously. They have such attitude towards everyone.
Honestly, I don't want to come back because of the sneers and glares me and my friend got while we were eating there. My friend came in by themselves the other day and waited 15 minutes in an empty restaurant before one of the servers, who was just chatting with the other server, decided to go talk to her.
I hope the owners read this and reconsider their staff. We had nice servers before when we came the first two times. I think it was the owners but I'm not really sure.
Basically my review is, "Love your food. But not your servers." I don't have the most refined palette for Indian food. But I can definitely tell how fresh and how balanced a meal is.
Also please no more sad salads with my meal. I would rather you add something else in that corner like an appetizer of some sort.
Hope you fix the server issues. Once that's fixed, will most likely come back.
EDIT: I've read the owner's response and will come back sometime, when I am in the area, to verify whether those statements were valid and the service has changed. Will update my review when I do.
EDIT: I decided to change my rating. I went back randomly because I wanted to give an honest review but decided to not eat in as I was still getting weird stares from the server as if I shouldn't be there. But I did order to go some veg samosas and I called it a Butter chicken combo before but it really was called the Non-Veg Thali.
The food was just as amazing as I remembered and instead of raw cabbage, they added raw onions and I was skeptical but the combination with everything was phenomenal. Like the flavours were dancing in my mouth. And in the middle was a dessert ball, I have no idea what it was, but it was oily and I squeezed some of it out as it was a bit excessive for me and it tasted like a wet timbit. And I mean that in a good way. It was so sweet and delicious. The samosa however was a little disappointing as the samosa itself was very plain which is okay because usually the sauce makes up for it but it was very weird. It was almost like a barbecue sauce in taste and it was like a very dark colour. I'm used to the red sauce colour and taste for samosas so I don't know if I would get it again.
Overall, meal besides the samosas was so good I can't forget it. So thank you for fixing that. But I probably still won't sit in for a meal because although the server was much faster to respond than before, it still feels like I'm walking on ice. They're just not...
Read moreTried out this new Indian restaurant Desi Tadka that opened up near my home recently. Here is my honest unbiased review...
I ordered the following dishes for pickup via Skip: x1 Kadhai Chicken x1 Veg Samosa with Chana (2 pcs) x1 Garlic Naan x2 Laccha Parantha
Having eaten at multiple Indian restaurants here in Surrey (check out my reviews), I can genuinely say the food here is mediocre at best.
First, let’s talk about the bread 🥖: The Parantha was too dry for my liking and had nothing flaky about it, it wasn’t even crispy either, in fact after biting into it I had to pull hard just to rip it off my mouth ( Kind of like beef jerky). The garlic naan was slightly better but nothing to write home about.
Vegetable Samosa with Chana: The samosa was quite dry as well, it had 0 crisp and the potato filling tasted a bit dry and lacked flavour and depth. Even the Chana toppings could not save the samosa here.
Kadhai Chicken 🍗🥘: This is the only item I ordered that could have saved this meal…however…for some reason they decided to use whole black peppercorn in this dish. The gravy was great, the spice level was perfect and the amount of chicken was sufficient but every time a black peppercorn made its way into my mouth and I bite into it, the entire dish becomes so off-putting and the black peppercorn completely overpowers everything else in my mouth.
It's unfortunate...I really really wanted to like this restaurant since it's literally a few blocks from my home and one of the very few Indian restaurants around Guildford, but it's not quite there yet and has a long way to go before it can compare to some of the tasty Indian restaurants along Scott Road and Newton areas.
This is the type of Indian restaurant I'd go to if I had no other choice and was craving Indian at midnight (this place closes quite late which is nice). But honestly with all the Indian food choices in Surrey, I really don't see myself ordering from here again until they improve their quality.
The crazy part is my entire meal cost me just under $40 which is extremely pricey for the quality I just had. I would even rate Tandoori Flame Buffet higher than this place which is also less expensive or about the same price of what I just ordered.
Can't speak for the service since I did not eat inside the restaurant, this review is strictly a food review. Also, there was no issues with the foods temperature - it was still quite hot when I got home, but despite that the quality of the food did not live up to my expectations.
Overall, the food here was underwhelming. I do hope Desi Tadka improves their quality and also invests in a good pepper grinder. 2 stars for the food and 1 star for...
Read moreI was disappointed with my interraction with the staff today and the resulting undercooked samosas and naan bread. Staff was nice enough when taking my order but upon paying was told that I needed to wait 20-25 mins to get my take out order. This was 1:30pm and there were only two tables filled that were about to leave. As I didn’t have the time to wait 25 mins, I told them to cancel the order. The staff did not cancel my order immediately nor did she make a refund. Instead i waited while she attended to another customer! More time passes and then I was given excuses that it would take 3 days to get the refund. Then another staff comes and says, ok it will take 10-15 mins. I said ok. Nice that they accommodated me. I did get my food in that time but when I got home, I found the samosas undercooked as well as the naan bread. Now I love samosa dough but there was way too much dough for this samosa. It tasted doughy and of uncooked flour. If you know that it is going to take such a long time for an order, the staff should let customers know before paying. 25 mins to fulfill an order? And when there is barely anyone in the restaurant? I do not like making bad reviews but don’t say you can fill an order when you clearly couldn’t and send under rated food out. I will say that the goat curry that I reheated was very tasty but not much meat for $20 and my experience with this restaurant has already been tainted. I am sorry to give this review. Very...
