I love American style, drive through burgers. They're deliberately different from the restaurant style burgers you would get at say DB Bistro, Cactus Club, etc. These burgers are sloppy, melt in your mouth, artery clogging, goodness. They're also not the same as McDicks, Wendy's, or Burger King...which aren't technically edible imo. My favourite, hands down, is the double double animal style from In-n-out burger. But they refuse to open up a location more than 200 miles from their meat processing plant. Their meat is 100% fresh, never frozen. Why do I mention this? Because Five Guys is similar though they have 600 locations across North America - this Surrey location being their 2nd in BC. I had their bacon cheeseburger (comes with 2 3.5oz patties). Their Little bacon cheeseburger has 1 patty. The burgers aren't cheap...at $8.75 BUT you can choose as many topping as you like. I had sauteed mushrooms, onions, ketchup and mustard. 2 burgers and one regular fries (which, btw, can feed 2-3 people) came to just over $23. A little pricey. The verdict, not as good as In-n-out but a good solid, 2nd place finish. And considering In-n-out is a plane ticket away, this is pretty darn good. The cheese on the cheeseburger is strong - very melty, thick cheese. In fact, this is the first CHEESEburger I've had where the cheese is very dominant. Good thing? Perhaps. I find it took away from the moistness of the burger. I might opt for mayo to go with my cheeseburger next time. Also, on their site, they advertise 0 trans fat...which. I guess, is a good thing, but come on...you're eating a greasy fatty burger. Fries are ok. They also have cajun fries which I would have tried but I knew they were massive servings and my daughter cannot eat spicy food. Next time - as there will be one for sure.
Forgot to mention, the space is huge. They take up two retail locations and they had at least 12 staff working. I ordered at 6:02 and my burgers were ready at 6:08. That's pretty damn fast. The place was also pretty busy at half full with a constant stream of people coming in...
Read moreUsually when you are ordering food from restaurants/diners where the fries are a separate item on the menu it's like a basket of fries( alot for me). The smalls sizes are much bigger than fast food restaurants. I asked the cashier if there was an option to make my burger into a combo because I wanted to try the fries for whole "5guys" experience. The cashier explained to me that the burgers come with a small cup of fries. We confirmed with her a few times that what we heard was what she said. I thought perfect! something actually worked in my favor without much problem solving. Turns out you can jinx yourself even when your speaking in your head. When I picked up the order, it was just two burgers. So I communicated to the expeditor (order# calling worker) that she has forgot something for our order. She said that there weren't any fries on the ticket, in a rude tone. I explained what the cashier had explained just 10 minutes ago. Than the expeditor said they don't do that, to get fries you have to order them separate. Then I looked over to the till area looking for the young lady who had told me this line of bull. She was nowhere to be found. Which I found sneaky & an odd thing to do. I believe she just wanted our order to be over and done with so she could get off shift or possibly go on a break. My burger was decent, my stomach was happy for the rest of the night. Although my companion's burger looked like the burger components were thrown into the wrapper, each from a different direction. the burger was such a mess he was only able to eat about half of it. The bun disintegrated within the first few bites it fell apart. He was disappointed about his burger and I was disappointed about being tricked into thinking I was going to have the "5 guys" experience lol-sounds bad. We left unsatisfied although the peanuts are addicting. I will try a different...
Read moreWas recommended this place by a friend. They said its better than FatBurger. That it was juicier and better tasting.
We spend almost $40 for what we got...!
The Good: Fries were the only thing good!
The Bad: The burgers were ok.. but not worth the price!
The cheese was cold and not melted to the patty. The mushrooms were cold, the fried onions were cold, the patty was warm, but because all the fixing were cold the burger was over all cold! It was edible, but I have had better burgers from McDonalds. At least McDs will bring the food to my car. For almost $40 you should have brought it to my table.
The Ugly: I asked for chili in my burger, the guy at the counter did not even know what chili is? He thought I wanted a chili pepper. I tried to explain what it was, but gave up when he gave me that vacant stare!
Definitely not better than Fatburger, cause fatburger brings my food to me. Fatburger gives me hot food. Fatburger will put chili in my burger and melt the cheese on the patty.
Never found those free peanuts?
Definitely do not recommend, you are better off going to Fatburger! Food is better and...
