The Back Room Surrey previously Delight Indian Bistro — Restaurant in Surrey

We have ordered take-out from this restaurant before and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately our dine-in experience was not as pleasant. We had a party of 10 arrive for a reservation and the staff were very kind about letting us switch tables to accommodate everyone's needs. The food was good but there was one dish missing which was brought out later. The dish was in a bowl that had no handles and it was filled to the brim with very hot curry. My brother reached up to help the server place it on the table and she warned him it was very hot. He said okay and when she handed it to him it slipped and fell on the table and burnt my brother's hand.

We understand it was an accident and are not trying to blame anyone. What we were disappointed by was the response of the staff. The server who dropped the bowl was very apologetic and we appreciate that, but when we told the story to the other server she immediately cut us off and said the other server told her what happened and it's not her fault because she told my brother twice that it's really hot and it was my brother who dropped the bowl so they can't be blamed. We only brought it up with her so we could ask for some ice for my brothers hand not to place blame.

When I went to pay the bill the same server told me that, as a kind gesture, they would bring us free desserts for the table to apologise. I said I appreciated the gesture however that wouldn't work for us because half of the table wouldn't be able to eat it due to health reasons. She replied by saying "well the other half can eat it." We felt this was a very rude and inconsiderate response as it completely disregarded the needs of half of my family members. There were no other attempts to make amends it was more of a- take the free dessert or get nothing because we don't want to accommodate for you- kind of response. Server Rashim Sharma spoiled our day,we came in group of 9 , i ordered drinks and she came back with drinks after 30 min till that time we had already done appetizers, she didn't introduce her self and didn't ask if would like any drink, we requested her to sit outside cause we felt like suffocation and warm outside but she denied our request. we usually come to this location 4 times atleast in year in group for birthday parties, but we will not come back to visit this location in our life, we had to leave restaurant after appetizers and done our dinner in another restaurant, this is first time in my life when we had to split our party in another restaurant only because of Rashim Sharma, when i complained about this she started argue with me, she has no manner how to talk with customers, customers satisfaction i found zero. even she said we are working since morning, thats not customer's fault if you working since morning , i'll never suggest this restaurant to anyone, we enjoyed appetizers, i guess chef is doing his job good whoever is but front staff servers they are in attitude, come on guys this is Canada customers service is everything here, we come to restaurant not only for food we come to spend quality of time with friends, but Ms Sharma think about it what you did with us, i'll never forget this day in my life, in this recession time you are loosing your owner's Business, i'm food lover and i have visited every restaurant in Lower Mainland, this is first time i observed when server in attitude, so many times i asked for Manager, no body responded, now i'll email to owner. if owner is reading my review please intervene. I suggest you to hire good Manager or Trainer who can direct your servers. We were excited to try this spot out living in the neighbourhood. Had such a bizarre experience. I love gin and saw they had a great gin cocktail menu. I ordered a gin and cantaloupe cocktail. Ingredients were gin, cantaloupe purse, tonic, lemon juice and basil. When my cocktail arrived it was deep blue and red (turning purple when stirred) with lavender sprinkled on top. It was so sweet it was undrinkable. I couldn’t taste any gin or cantaloupe and even added water to try and make it work. We were certain I must have been given the wrong drink so we asked the server who asked the bartender. They assured us it was right and we were so confused. She did say it was infused gin but it still looked and tasted nothing like the drink on the menu. There was another drink on the menu with lavender so we asked again if they may have made that one and they said no. Didn’t seem to feel like talking us through it. We then asked why there was lavender in this one and just a blank stare.. I asked if I could have a gin and cucumber instead and was given the strangest look and no response. Asked for a gin drink recommendation that wasn’t sweet and still no response.,we just ordered wine instead. We know we got the wrong drink and were so confused but just gave up since no one was walking us through it. Probably won’t go back unfortunately. The service was okay, but they did bring us the wrong food and when we enquired again they said “yes that’s what you ordered” and then returned a few minutes later to admit it wasn’t ours and take it away.
