It is as good as it gets, Mr. Google.
You'll find this place in the old Safeway (now gone) shopping centre in Newton. It's the restaurant site that is right beside DQ. Several restaurants have come and gone, but I believe absolutely that the curse is broken. This restaurant rocks the spices like no-one else has in that location. Delicious and definitely many happy returns is on the agenda.
Although I haven't had the opportunity to stand at the foot of the Himalayas yet, or travelled to Nepal (hopefully one day), going to either restaurant (Taste of Nepal or Taste of Himalayas) gives you a bit of a foodie travel experience. As soon as we walked inside the door I knew that we were in for a treat. The restaurant was half full, but the Skip the Dishes people were in and out all the time, which tells me that there's more than a few people who have discovered this place already. We tried some dishes we've never tried before, and a few that we knew were amazing, (from eating at the Taste of Nepal down the road).
My favorite was the FIsh Tikka. It had a hint of sweetness, the fish was light and perfectly cooked. We also tried the vegetarian dish, Jackfruit Curry. We ate jackfruit everyday when we were in VIetnam. This came with some potatoes and vegetables in a warm, beautifully scented sauce.
The thing about the owner is that he has a truly gifted palate, and really knows how to marry spices to give each dish a unique experience all its own. His momos are already famous, and favorites with anyone who tries them at least once. Now he's introducing us to a Himalayan menu that from the looks of the patrons, suits pretty much everyone who visits his place.
The menu is extensive, so I'm pretty certain it's going to be a while before I'm sure about all of my favorites. There's a lot to choose from.
Other things: delightful service, spotless restaurant, clean bathroom: all of those things that contribute to a great experience. It isn't licensed, but we didn't miss a beer with our meal... much.
That old phrase "party in my mouth".... yes that works for a description of the food here, but this place actually has an afterparty too. After I had eaten as much as I should have, I had a pleasant spicy warm sensation all over my mouth that reminded me that this isn't your grandma's Sunday dinner. It just might be a great new...

I recently visited Taste of Himalayas for dinner and had a mixed experience with the food and service.
Starting with the positives, the Pani Puri I ordered was outstanding. The taste was exceptional, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, my dining experience took a turn when I requested extra Pani for the Pani Puri and was unexpectedly charged $2 without prior notification. While I understand the need for additional charges, I would have appreciated being informed beforehand.
Moving on to the chicken dishes, I tried the gravy chicken, which was prepared in a traditional style. While the taste was good, I found that the chicken was slightly overcooked, resulting in a lack of tenderness. Additionally, I ordered paneer gravy, but unfortunately, it had a strong vegetable oil taste that was quite off-putting. This made it difficult to enjoy the dish, and I felt it was a waste of money.
On a more positive note, I also tried the Nepali-style noodles, which were phenomenal. Overall, while some dishes were outstanding, others fell short of expectations. With better attention to detail and consistency in flavors, Taste of Himalayas has the potential to offer a more satisfying...
Read moreI have never had Nepalese cuisine and did not know what to expect. The tastes and flavours were nothing like I’ve ever had and blended together perfectly. The Momo’s were nice and juicy and not too spicy. They were well cooked and I would eat them again, but I didn’t find them out of this world amazing. I would consider trying then in chicken next time. The Chicken Sekuwa was so tasty though!! The flavours and spices were just perfect and especially with the fresh squeezed lime. It really brought another dimension to it. And then to pair it with the sweetness of the coconut rice was just the perfect combination. I would definitely have that again! Plus the price is super affordable. I would definitely recommend for you to try the chicken sekuwa. The reason I docked 1 star though is that the bathroom was disgusting. I try not to think about the bathroom cleanliness as a direct reflection of the restaurant but it really was horrible. The toilet was extremely dirty and gross and I was so glad to be able to wash my hands. Especially in covid times it would be nice to see the bathroom was a little better maintained. But other than than that, the food was exceptional and I will come back to try other items...
