张摊摊麻辣烫 ZHANG TANTAN MALA TANG — Restaurant in Toronto

A new Mala Tang spot in the neighbourhood. The interior decoration is quite neat, lots of light up posters. The concept is you grab a bowl and tongs, open up the fridge, pick your selection of ingredients and weigh it at the counter, pay by weight. The noodle selections are on the counter where you pick last if you want to add it. There is original soup, spicy mix no soup and a spicy soup where you can choose from little spicy to medium, I've selected medium. I didn't find it too spicy. I can tolerate spicy though. The only thing is in terms of the ingredients inside the fridge, I didn't find that they have a wide selection.

The unique aspect for this mala tang is that they have skewers such as sweet sausage, wings and egg filled flatbread that you can order on the side.

The food was extremely salty. We asked the girl to put the sauce in separate bowl and the girl claimed the sauce was supposed to put in the soup. A lil strange but we didnt question no more.

After the food was brought to us, I was even thinking to myself that never had I ever tasted anything this awfully SALTY in my life. Its like a sodium soup.

I had to squeezed out everything from the soup to be able to eat. At first I thought maybe this is their style, until I got home and looked through all photos from other customers whose sauce were separate from the soup base. Why on earth the service girl told us we cannot have the sauce in the separate bowl from the beginning?

Just letting you know, I never left bad reviews about any food...

I personally loved the soup base, i did mild with minimum numbing herbs. I like how they added sesame paste which enhances the soup flavour. And of course, the price goes by weight, the more toppings, u choose the more $$ it gets~

As for skewers, I THINK ITS DELICIOUS! Its not like the ones you eat at those skewers place where its first deep fried and than grilled, this place uses the oven to bake it. It does take longer but so much more juicy and soft!

Overall 5/5! Just wish store is a bit more spacious and free parking😂 but what can you do when they are located on one of the most busiest...
