ORIGINAL REVIEW 2024

This used to be Island Hot & Spicy, owned by a husband and wife team. It is now 9 Mile (been open for a month) and the food and service is exceptional. Go for the delicious curry goat and rice and peas. Don't go back to Jerk King. Keep it authentic if you want a taste of Jamaica.

2025 UPDATE

This is a long update, one year later on my truly disappointing recent experience ordering a takeaway for my aunt.

On Saturday 14th June, I placed an order in person for the brown stew chicken meal but the young female assistant informed me that they were out.

Having agreed on the BBQ chicken, this is where the confusion grew apace.

I asked if she could divide the portion into 2 medium takeaway pots as my aunt would only be able to manage a small portion at a time, which the assistant claimed she understood.

Anyway, we ordered two drinks and I paid the bill. It wasn't until she started sharing out the food that I realised the error. She charged me for 2 main meals not 1.

I didn't need two main meals so requested a refund on one of the dishes.

She wasn't authorized to administer the refund, so her colleague arrived to assist. The refund was made with the funds due to be returned to my card, but bizarrely the assistant proceeded to open the till and give me cash. The other assistant and I both shouted 'No, the refund will go back to the card', saving the company from a billing error.

Once settled I waited for the dishes to be served as there were two of the customers ahead of me.

After a short wait, she beckoned me back. My 2nd error was not checking what she had served us. I hadn't appreciated that she got the order wrong AGAIN!

I didn't know until we left, but I realised on exit that the drinks were not included in the bag.

On our return I mentioned the error. The assistant stated that she didn't charge us for the 2 bottles of Ting, so could give them to us! At no point when we were ordering the drinks did she say that Ting was out of stock. My husband, our witness, was as baffled as I was because I was basically charged over $CAD 38 for a meal I didn't order.

I say that because on arriving home we then discovered that we were given fried chicken and not barbecue chicken. Plus I requested additional gravy which wasn't applied.

So, buyer beware. Check and double check everything: a) before handing over funds (and providing a tip), and b) thoroughly check your order before it gets bagged up.

My aunt wasn't satisfied with the meal, so that wasn't money well spent.

22nd June 2025 update

Thanks for replying team. The bottle of Ting was never offered complimentary once in stock, so I'll hold you to that when I return to...

My family and I purchased 1 curry goat, 1 jerk chicken and 1 fry chicken meal. I was very disappointed with the service and the food. While ordering I asked the girl at the front for some BBQ sauce on the side for the fry chicken since they were out of the BBQ chicken and the BBQ fry which is what I originally wanted. She was said the don't give sauce on the side. I ask if she can put the sauce on the chicken for me. She said no she can't. I told her I need some kind of sauce on the chicken. I ask for some stew chicken gravy on the rice. No they don't have that. I ask so what sauce do you have that I put on the chicken. she finally said fry chicken gravy, but I literally had to keep asking over and over about a sauce when she could have told me from the beginning that they have fry chicken gravy. She had an attitude when she did speak and her face had a stink look. Her attitude was very different with me verses the Jamaican customers. She was friendly, giggling and laughing and telling them all the options they have. Also the guy that pack my curry goat order had a weird vibe with me because he literally give me 2 half scoop of curry which was mostly bones. I watched the packed a Jamaican customer curry goat order and it was packed to the rim. They gived that customer about 4 or 5 scoop of curry. I had to ask him if that's all the curry because I was shock how two different people order the same things but was treated so differently from the attitude to the amount of food. I told him they should treat everyones order the same in the amount of food they give. He proceeded to put one piece more which was a bone. I honestly feel they are racist because they should treat everyone the same regardless of race. The rice was clumps of mush. The jerk chicken was tasteless in the inside and dry. The fry chicken was stale and gross. It was sitting there in warmer probably for hours. I will not...

My experience at 9 mile was terrible!! The staff are rude & have no customer service. Also their food use to be good, but now its super trash. Today i went in and ordered 1 curry goat, 1 jerk chicken & 1 fry chicken meal. First off, my son came in for the BBQ chicken however they said they didnt have any.. so he settled for the fried chicken. I asked them if they had any BBQ sauce they could give on the side for him, they said no. Mind you they have wings on their menu, which can come in BBQ as well. That was kind of strange to me but I settled. I asked if I can get stew chicken gravy on the rice, as that's the only other thing my son enjoys eating. She said there isn't any. There was only jerk gravy and fry chicken gravy. I then asked her about the fried chicken gravy to see if my son would like it... & this woman proceed to tell me its a sauce made with BBQ sauce & ketchup.... 😳😳😳 so long story short, miss lady did not want to give a child some BBQ sauce even tho they had it. All the rice in our meals were complete mush & a disgrace to rice & peas. The jerk chicken was mid. It had a slight smoke flavor on the outside, but the actual meat had no flavor. Last but not least, The curry goat! Why did Mister think he could give us one half spoon of curry with all bones for almost $20 ???? In the same moment, I seen another server served another order of curry goat that was not mine. & this gentleman filled that order of curry goat to the rim!!!! Mind you I stopped our server and told him about it & he had nothing to say... & proceeds to give us 1 more boney piece of meat... which was still very little. Im extremely disappointed with my overall experience & I will never chose to spend my hard earned dollar to eat here in the future. If you guys are looking food good Jamaican food with GREAT Costumer Service, go to tricnic or...

Holy ‘great food’ Batman! Friend - you have got to dine at 9Mile Jamaican Restaurant. If you love food as much as I do, this spot is for you! Hubby and I are still celebrating our anniversary and decided to get food from 9Mile. In a word, it is delicious. We both ordered the OG. Mine was the regular OG and his was the Triple OG. The difference is in size (the triple is three times the size of the regular). Stuffed inside the house-made patty is hand seasoned beef, jerk chicken, 9Mile house sauce and sweet plantain. The outside crust of the patty is just crispy enough to hold the contents together. Everything together is the right symphony for those who enjoy an upsell on a Jamaican staple. I can’t recommend this enough! The customer service is very good. The time of order to getting the food in our hands was exactly 4 minutes and 37 seconds (yes I timed it!). We were served with a smile which was appreciated. At the time of our visit (5:17pm), there were no dessert offerings so we settled for a Ting and Sorrel-Ginger drink to satisfy our sweet craving. In addition to their patties, 9Mile offers Jahmosas (you have got to try them - see pictures) as well as traditional Jamaican cuisine such as Jerk Chicken and Pork, curry Goat, Oxtail and more. In my opinion, eating at 9Mile everyday is expensive, BUT, a once-a-week treat is definitely a must. Our order (described above) came to $40.07. There are 2 tables available for people who want to dine-in. There isn’t a children’s menu however children 5 years and older will enjoy BBQ chicken. Parking is a hit and miss. There is street parking at the front of the store that you have to pay for. You might find additional parking on nearby streets. This restaurant is not mobility friendly but can be managed with assistance. The store is open late with a walk-up window.
