I work up the street and thought to come in for lunch. I understand that it was lunch and would be busy so I had no problem with that. I did have a problem with the manager though. I ordered through him and when it came down to pay I forgot my wallet at my workplace. I apologized and told him I’ll be right back with money. As I was pulling out to retrieve my wallet he left the store and stopped me and said, “if you were just going to leave why didn’t you tell me to cancel the order?” I told him that I was not leaving and that I forgot my wallet at my workplace and was just going to get it. He kept mentioning that I worked a few blocks up and why I told him why i was going to come back when I was leaving. I told him repeatedly that I was coming back with my wallet to pay and that I was not leaving. He made a big fuss about how the food was already being made when I was just going to leave. I came back with my wallet and the manager was nowhere to be seen. I came to the register and said, “I’m here for the 2 cod wraps and buddy burger sandwiches.” The girl at the register looked at me confused and said that I have to order again and have to wait for the food to be made again. The girls working there were nice but communication needs to play a big factor in these types of jobs. I asked who the male was that was there a few minutes ago and the girl at cash told me it was the manager. I was surprised to see that the man who chased me out the store to my car and spoke to me like I had no money was the manager. While I was waiting for my food to be made again he came out and said that he thought I was getting money from my car. This made no sense as he chased me out the store to my car and I specifically told him I was coming back with my wallet. You can be good at making food, taking orders, bagging the food but without good communication skills I’m not sure how far establishments will go and this store definitely lacks a lot of...
Read moreOne evening mid-August, after a long day of touring in the city with friends, we were starving. We debated for a long time on which A&W location we were going to go; and Avenue Road won! I wanted my friends visiting Canada to taste the famous Root beer and All day breakfast. We happily discovered that their Atlantic Cod was back on the menu for a limited time. Upon our arrival, their employee Amrita told us that their fountain was out of service and they no longer serve the “All Canadian breakfast” at this time of the day. Amrita was patient, kind, genuine; our friends had never been to an A&W before and they were overwhelmed by all the choices and very hungry. Amrita made our trip to this location so worth it that we forgot about the minor inconvenience. It gave us the chance to delight in their lemonade and apple juice; and we ordered the Atlantic Cod tacos and Atlantic Cod Burger among others things (we order so much food!). My friends loved the Atlantic so much they cannot eat another fish burger from any other competitors. ( FYI: one of my friend is not a fan of fish!!! She is now an A&W fish enthusiast lol) The best Atlantic Cod you could eat. Thank you Amrita for making that night special for them. I have worked in hospitality for more than two decade and it is absolutely beautiful to meet someone that is genuinely passionate about her work and interaction with customers. Great job A&W for hiring...
Read moreTaking this down to three stars after continuing issues with gift cards. Their machines don't scan cards, apparently, if they are from outside stores (Shoppers etc). I am aware of this and told them to manually enter the card number, but recently an employee got surly with me insisting my cards were no good until I pushed repeatedly for her to do it manually and it worked. Unpleasant experience.
They also served me a fizzy apple juice, which is interesting as their root beer and other soda is often flat. And they refused to give me a proper carrying bag for my various items, telling me it was just for deliveries. That may be the policy, but it's not a fair one and not friendly to takeout customers.
A decent A&W, and the only one in the area. I've had issues with flat soda and with gift cards not being accepted, but staff have always tried to help even when they couldn't. I feel like a lot of the issues with A&W franchises come from the corporate level not supporting or providing proper equipment and training. Anyway, A&W is one of the more expensive but higher quality fast food options in Canada. They are pretty reliable and have good hours. Stick to the tried and true burgers, onion rings and fries. I find their limited time and newer items like various chicken-burgers to be...
