UPDATE: OCT. 19, 2022: I have downgraded this location's rank to two stars because of their "no washroom access after dark" policy. I walked in after 2am to find three people sleeping spread across the chairs. Don't know if they were homeless, or employees, or passed out drunk but it was not a very welcoming space. After finishing my burger and fries, I was denied access to the bathroom to wash my hands. I told the cashier I had to pee, but was still denied access to the bathroom. He said he didn't have the key, and that management had made the decision to lock the bathrooms at night. A so-called restaurant that doesn't allow patrons to use the toilet? Is that even legal? There is nothing sketchy about my appearance or behaviour, there was no legitimate reason to deny this paying customer access to the bathroom. Further, there was no sign at the front door alerting customers that there was no washroom access. Had I known, I would not have spent my money there. They allow people who weren't wearing A&W uniforms to sleep in their restaurant, but they don't allow me to use the bathroom after I've eaten. Completely unacceptable. My previous review of this location from last year is below:

There is nothing fast about this location. I waited 12 minutes the other day for a burger and fries. If they know it's going to take more than a couple of minutes that would be good information to share before taking my money so i can make a better informed decision. What is an acceptable wait time once I place my order? Does A&W have such a target for wait times? Seems to me 12 minutes is too long to wait for a burger and fries. Next time I'm going to ask how long the wait is and...

After waiting 10-15mins for my Teen Burger (mobile order, w/extra pickles & NO sliced onions), when I sat down & pulled the burger out of the bag, I noticed that there were onions on it (& not really any extra pickles). I took it back up to the counter & pointed the error out to the A&W employee manning the register/taking orders; they were quick to correct my order (not the 1st time that this has happened at this location, as well as a couple of others), but considering I paid an additional $0.10 for extra pickles, I'm not terribly impressed w/their definition of "extra".. (I find it rather ridiculous (& cheap) that fast-food restaurants are charging for certain additional ingredients not typically on an item, like a slice of tomato or mustard, or even heavy/extra ingredients that are already part of the item, like pickles, mayo, or special sauce). At least the staff here don't come across as stuck-up & rude like a couple of other downtown/central GTA locations that I frequent. I do find it annoying when the close/block access to their restrooms during certain times, especially when people are still placing orders (whether dining in, or for takeout). People's stomachs, digestive tracts, & bladders/colons don't stop working during these hours just because they close the restrooms to...

March 2024: Not so open 24 hours. 6:30 AM on a Saturday, I find the door locked and two staff eating breakfast at a table while on their phones. A tap on the door did nothing. Patiently waiting for 15 minutes in the cold, the one guy facing the door looks up and we lock eyes but he ignores me looking back down. I take a couple of pics and head to McDonalds. Maybe you should change the sign in the window to "sometimes" open 24 hours.

2023: Clean restaurant. Friendly service. Proper tables & chairs...not the metal counters with metal high stools at the A&W at Church & Carlton.

Food is A&W typical with no surprises.

All Canadian breakfast with medium coffee will run you close to 13 dollars. Choice of jam/peanut butter.

Eating in will have you with a proper plate with real utensils...always a plus and less for the landfill.

They also have chilled glass mugs for their Root Beer. Now if they could only have vanilla ice cream for that perfect float 😊

Small ramp with power door for those in wheelchairs or if you have a...

This is my closest A&W franchise and I admit to occasionally stopping here after going out, knowing full well that someone will be treating their skin disease at the front table when I walk in and other will Be passed out from whatever substance and that the bathrooms will be unavailable to paying customers under no circumstances and that I am very unlikely to get the correct burger which I probably paid between $10 and $20 to eat. I’ll likely keep going until an alternative pops up near church and Bloor I recommend restricting your order to things that allow a quick escape and maybe just walking away without it if you need to for your safety.

I really had such a lovely time at this A&W recently! The food was tasty and surprisingly hot—exactly how I like it. The Teen Burger was spot on, and the onion rings were crispy and golden. But honestly, what really made the visit memorable was the service. It was pretty late at night, but Keshmya, the cashier, greeted me with such a warm and genuine smile. She made sure my order was just right and was incredibly friendly and professional the whole time. You can tell she really takes pride in her work, which made the whole experience even better. Big shoutout to the entire team—and especially to Keshmya. I’ll definitely be coming back!
