1- I came in the store because my friend hyped me up about this place. So i ordered for $54 and some change. No hello, no smile, nothing welcoming from the 2 girls working there. So service is really not up to par.
2 - I bought the oxtail plate, jerk chicken plate and a jerk sandwich. I asked for a substitution of the rice for plantains and a straight “NO WE DON’T THAT” and that’s it.
3- the food was really stale and not really good tbh.
It will be hard for any small business to make profit when you don’t have a great customer service and subpar food quality. I really want to see places like these succeed so this message is for the owner: have a personnel that is happy to work and deliver AAA customer service make the food tastier because the jerk isn’t crispy or tasty and the oxtail had no flavors. give flexibility for the client to make changes based on their liking, a switch from rice to plantain is a no brainer
I really wish you the best and hopefully you’ll make these adjustments because I love supporting local...
Read moreI grew up next door to the original Allwyn’s on York Mills and ate there twice a week for most of my life - and continued eating their food once they moved to underhill. It is hands down the best jerk in the city and their consistency has made me a regular customer for the better part of two decades. I just tried the Queensway location for the second time and it was just as disappointing as the first. Don’t get me wrong, their food isn’t “bad,” but it certainly isn’t Allwyn’s. Not even close.
It does not look, taste, or even feel like Allwyn’s, and I am honestly blown away that they are using the same name. Changing the recipe but using the name of a bakery that’s been serving regulars for over 20 years is pretty insulting and that’s why I’m giving it one star. If you’re going to make money off of their name, at least use their recipe. The queen street location pretty much got it right - why is your...
Read moreThe portion size are huge. I went here twice this week. On Saturday, we ordered the coco patty sandwich with jerk chicken and I liked it. The coco bread and the Jamaican patty was a hit. We also ordered the oxtail, it was flavorful however it was on the sweet-ish side. Not spicy at all.
Went back Monday as I wanted to try their fried chicken and jerk pork. I tried a piece of the fried chicken, the texture was crispy and soft inside (👌🏼) however there was no seasoning on the chicken at all. I feel like I was eating bland chicken. So that kinda sucked.
The jerk pork on the other hand was delicious. The portions were generous and the pork was perfect smoked, spicy and seasoned to my like. The coleslaw both days were both meh.
I'll definitely come back for the jerk pork and the stuffed patty. The bbq chicken looked good, I still have...
