The best & most affordable strawberry cream cake AND roll cake + surprisingly good croissants for a place that offers a lot of menu options. I first got their original roll slice from a Chatime during Christmas when nowhere else was open. It was a great price (under $4) compared to other places nearby that offer similar items, such as Neo (around $6 if I'm not mistaken) and the quality was great. The cake was more dense and eggy, and the size/cream distribution is actually better than in most of their photos. Next I wanted to try their strawberry cream cake (individual size) and headed up to their actual Croissanterie location (this one on Yonge) to get it + another roll cake + croissant. The strawberry cream cake is also a great price ($5.7, it's a different price when I see it on uber eats so try to get in store if you can). The cake quality was so good. The sponge is super soft, the strawberry on top was fresh, and they use two kinds of cream from what I can tell, which adds to the diversity of flavours - one is more typical whipped cream and the other is a sort of meringue. I tried one bite of the croissant and will finish tomorrow but it looks and tastes good! I'm a picky eater with croissants and so far have only managed to like Nadege and Delysees so far. Bake Code's croissant reminds me a bit of Vancouver's Angus T, which is a good thing because all they do is specialize in croissants. Also, the guy who was in here today had great customer service. Reflecting on why I haven't been here earlier, I think Bake Code is underserved by their branding. I got recommended it when I first moved to Toronto and stepped into their really dark, really red North York location. Not appealing and not the vibe people prefer for the bakery and cafe...
Read moreReally delicious, exceptional croissants - fresh and crunchy. The danish was actually the best item - layered crunchy puff pastry. I got the cheese berry danish which was exquisite - crunchy sugared layers filled with a cheese cream and topped with strawberry jam. It was unexpectedly my favorite, really really good.
The chocolate hazelnut croissant was also very good - they are very generous with the Nutella filling and there is a LOT of it. It was a little sweet for my taste due to so much Nutella, but if you like Nutella you’ll love this. The layers were a bit less crunchy than the danish but still delicious.
Update as I try more flavors: The Ube is TO DIE FOR!!! Has that distinct ube flavor that I love so much.
Vietnamese coffee is also excellent for those who like the idea of a coffee flavored croissant - I’m not sold on the combo.
Yuzu is wonderful and refreshing for someone who wants a citrus curd.
Truffle mushroom is a great savory option, though it’s sliced and filled so the filling does fall out - it’s definitely messier. Also not as thick and unctuous creamy filling like the others - a thin cream sauce just coating the mushrooms compared to the other creme pat/curd style fillings.
Peanut butter jam (monthly special) was delicious, veryyy peanut buttery and a little heavy - maybe even overfilled with peanut!
Mango cream is really yummy and fresh, I imagine similar to the...
Read moreThese are quality croissants, flaky and tender. The restaurant has a large selection of croissants, as well as a number of other pastries. My companion had an almond croissant and declared it among the best he’s ever had. I prefer a simple croissant so I chose the honey butter one, which seems to be the closest they have to a plain croissant. It was excellent. Unfortunately there is a noteworthy lack when it comes to savoury choices. I ordered the “salted egg croissant” billed as having a “molten salted egg filling”. Expecting a nice salty egg taste, I was a bit shocked to find the interior filled with gooey, over-sweet icing with no discernible egg flavour. I guess it’s supposed to look like an egg with salt on, but it was just too sweet and the description was very unclear. There only seem to be three savoury options on the menu, and two of them contain meat so are unsuitable for vegetarians like me. The only non-sweet veggie option is the mushroom truffle croissant, which I will try next visit. If the folks who run the shop are reading this, please add a few more savoury options, at least a plain croissant and a basic cheese croissant...
