I think this place is fairly new as this is the first time I've seen it. I was recently denied a Vietnamese lunch because the place I went to was full so obviously I was going to give this place a try. This place had a big cash or debit sign at the front door so once I checked that I had one of the above I proceeded inside.
The first thing I noticed as we were being seated was the size of the rice dish that the couple next to us had in front of them. It was massive compared to other places so I immediately crossed that off my list as I was not that hungry this visit. Both my partner and I ended up with the vermicelli with pork and spring roll (my partner's had the cane shrimp as well). The food was solid and the portions were generous with the cane shrimp version being bigger. Like most places there was a bit of shredded cabbage and bean sprouts to pad the dish and make it look more full but nothing out of the ordinary. The pork was cut into slices and was of the dry variety. The spring roll I believe is vegetarian and tasted ok. They give you a bowl of fish sauce but I found that insufficient and asked for more as the vermicelli was bland without it. The additional sauce helped but being a fish sauce snob I found the sauce to not be as flavourful as fish sauce from other restaurants.
The restaurant is nicely decorated with a fake cherry blossom tree at the entrance and some nice lanterns hanging near the kitchen. They packed in as many seats in the restaurant as they could so it felt a bit tight and if you come by yourself or in pairs you may have to share tables if it is busy. It was also very busy the night we went so it was quite loud with the crowd and music so keep that in mind if you prefer a quiet meal.
All in all a good first experience at Pho Anh Vu. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere was nice. Will likely be back next time I am looking for food...
Read moreI had dinner at Pho Anh Vu today, and I've tried all their locations before. The food was, as always, lovely, but the service was terrible. After finishing our meal, we asked the male waiter to wrap our leftovers and also ordered another dish to-go. While I was waiting for my takeout order, a female waitress with bangs kept checking on me, asking if I had finished or if I had placed another order. I told her I had paid and was just waiting for my takeout, but she returned again, placing new tea for another customer. She came back again and asked me to leave the table for the next customer. I moved to the waiting area, and she kept coming back to ask if I was waiting for a friend, even though I had already spoken to her three times in five minutes. Finally, I got my takeout order, but by then they had already cleaned up the food I wanted to pack up.
We paid and left a tip, but honestly, it didn’t feel worth it. The way we were treated felt more like a fast food restaurant than a place where you can enjoy a meal. If the restaurant is busy, it’s okay to take your time, but rushing customers out like that is unacceptable. It seemed like she wanted to serve more customers by pushing others out. Very disappointing service. I’ll never come back this location and either my...

Fortunately, i chose a table which is closest to the front door glassed foyer, with sunlight streaming in, and with a tall artificial small cherry blossom tree behind me. Interior is brightly illuminated with no loud music playing in the background.
The menu is small and uncomplicated which is a plus compared to some restaurants which have way too many items. I ordered a simple large pho, and asked that it only be rare beef and tripe. The broth is a good hot temperature and not too oily. There is a generous amount of protein, herbs, and rice noodles. They use a slightly wider rice noodle than what is generally found in most pho restaurants.
I also ordered a large rare beef pho for take out. They packaged the meal very very well, and the chef separated all components of the pho in separate plastic bags. Very nice packaging indeed !!!
I prefer this restaurant than ginger at yonge and bloor. Pho anh vu toronto's smaller menu, and bright and welcoming interior is a nice change from the usual dimly lit and odorous interiors of their competitors.
