Even though I only just discovered this place today, I think this might be my pick for top burrito of Toronto. Overall, from flavour to freshness to value for money, I was really impressed by my burrito order. This place gets full marks across the board from me.
I ordered a Regular size shrimp burrito ($12) and was pleased to see they sautéed my shrimp from scratch. The wide variety of fillings looked freshly chopped, and each vegetable looked like it was cut with texture in mind. The pinto beans were perfectly cooked to a melted sludge and the black beans were plump and meaty. I went with their default sauce option of salsa, sour cream and burrito sauce and was happy with the taste. My burrito was nicely grilled on two sides so I got to enjoy both the chewy fresh wrap and satisfying crispy charred parts of my tortilla at the same time. Structurally (an important element of any good burrito), the tortilla had no rips or gaps and even though my burrito was full of sauce, I had zero leaks while eating it in my car.
I can’t forget to talk about portion size - this Regular was wider than a wine bottle and felt like it weighed almost 2lb. I definitely got my money’s worth. They also offer a Huge size which costs $16 but warning: it’s not for the weak. I saw someone else’s Huge order on the grill and no joke, it looked to be about the size of a fireplace log.
My shrimp was part of the Premium lineup of proteins that includes jerk chicken and 14-hour marinated steak. The Standard proteins include fried chicken and ground beef and cost a dollar less on average. For vegetarians they offer the classic bean and cheese but also chickpeas and sweet potato, good job on the innovation!
Now I just need to find more excuses to get all the way out to...
Read moreTonight my girlfriend and I ordered delivery. Some time ago, I’d ordered a baked chicken burrito and found a piece of cartilage in it, but decided to give them another try. Part way through tonight’s baked chicken burrito I bit into a small piece of bone, which I removed. I continued for a few more bites and then bit into a good sized bone. On top of that, my girlfriend had jalapeños added to her burrito bowl, which she did not ask for. Needless to say, her meal was far too hot for her to eat. To add insult to injury, I called the restaurant and an employee informed me that the manager wasn’t there. Then she walked away from the phone, leaving the line open as I listened to the activities going on in what I assume was the kitchen. We will never order from Big Boy’s Burrito again. As a final note, in the first review I read when getting on Google tonight, the customer also recounted how she also found a good sized bone in her baked chicken burrito and included a...
Read moreThese are some of the best chicken wings in the GTA. The Buffalo wings are amazing and the tequila lime wings are a different take on wings, and are absolutely delicious. The wings are affordable (roughly a buck a wing, however, they come in orders of 10 or 20) The Burritos are delicious. My favorite is the steak burrito. The staff are efficient, friendly and polite. They dress your burrito to perfection and have a wide variety of ingredients. I always ask for mine to be "A little bit spicy" and it always turns out to be the perfect level of heat for my taste. I highly recommend Big Boy Burritos. I will most definitely continue to be a...
