I feel like the Beaches are purposely keeping Bud's under wraps and not letting anyone know about this spot. I had no idea about Bud's and was dreading of finding a good cup in a new spot. With the overwhelming positives for this spot, I stepped into their door and was happy to Sam James beans being used.
Recently, it sounds like they moved to a bigger spot and still making a great cup. It is still very busy... even on a lazy Saturday afternoon, there was no tables freed up and the constant line up was in and out of the place. It has a great friendly vibe and everyone here is quite warm with each other. It's clear that Bud's has made themselves part of the community because of the number of personal conversations between patrons or the staff and patrons. This was really nice to see. I guess Toronto can be friendly after all!
I have to appreciate how they use the good Canadian brands like Pluck and Cut Coffee to create their drinks. Nothing like supporting a good local. I think the baristas really know their drinks cause the flat whites we got were surpassing some of the well known coffee shops that sit on Toronto top 50.
Flat White with almond milk - The butter knife beans are just so good and Bud's did them right. This was a rich and robust coffee flavour with a touch of milkiness from the microfoamed milk. No acidity to make me wince. We decided to do the cashew and almond milk side by side taste test. I personally liked the almond milk more. I found it didn't influence the flat white as much and let the coffee flavour be more forward. I liked this one. 4/5
Flat White with cashew milk - I found the cashew milk version to have less of a coffee flavour... it definitely changed the taste. I would say it was a milkier flavour but more muted for sure. I did find cashew milk to be creamier than the almond milk but also weirdly enough, I touch more sweet? So if you're looking for the texture the most closest to cow's milk, this would probably be your favourite alternative milk. Kudos to Buds for offering more than one type of nut milk. 4/5
If I'm far out east again, I'll definitely make Bud my choice to get a good flat white and happy I'm not stuck...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve only been here a handful of times since itās close by, but every time I go, the service is sub par. The last time I went, I received such horrible treatment, that I donāt ever want to go back. The person serving me at the cash register was a Japanese person and it honestly shocked me at how incredible rude & inconsiderate she was. She seemed annoyed that I even went inside to order a drink. I sat at one of the tables in the back and she decided to start spraying cleaner all over and it got my coat quite wet. Even the customer on another table commented that the spray was getting into her food and drink. This employee then began to mop the floor and kept banging my table really roughly. If you gotta clean, do it when there are no customers sitting at the table or maybe you could avoid knocking the table so aggressively? I was appalled and just decided to let it go. Iāve had better service at McDonaldās. She mustāve been having a horrible day and I didnāt bother to say anything in fear sheād do some other passive aggressive action towards me. My advice as someone who also works in customer service, leave your personal matters behind when you come to work, and leave your work behind when you go home. If you hate your job, find something else that wonāt make you miserable and treat others unkindly. Youāll be a...
Read moreI've been coming here for 2 years, and it's become a staple in the Beaches. Fun fact: when I was still living in Montreal and working at a café, a customer who was traveling spoke highly of Buds, which made me excited to become a local and a regular. The owners are great, most of the staff is great, and the drinks are awesome and consistent. However, I have to give a 1-star review because the service I've been receiving recently is awful.
As someone who's been a barista for over 10 years, I know the drill. Today, I asked how fresh the regular brewed coffee wasāa very simple question because if it had been sitting for over an hour, I would have opted for an Americano instead. The two Asian girls working gave me the dirtiest looks and attitude. One was serving me at the cash register, and the other, who appeared to be a manager or supervisor, responded to me in a condescending manner without making eye contact and was texting as if my question and concerns weren't important.
My excitement to grab a coffee and smile quickly turned into a frown, and I didn't tip. Afterward, the girls spoke to each other in their language, completely disregarding me. It was very rude and disappointing, and the sense of community that I used to feel here is completely gone. I will no longer be...
