So glad Chen Chen’s is finally at The Well!
Perfect spot for lunch/dinner if you’re in the downtown core. Only about a 15 minute walk from Union Station and my office making it super quick and convenient. I went on grand opening day, and even with the crowd, the service was awesome. The staff were super friendly and fast.
I’ve been a fan of Chen Chen’s for years, and the food honestly slaps every single time. For my visit at The Well, I got the shrimp po’ boy which was crispy and flavourful. I thought it might be too heavy but the pickled red onions made it super balanced and delicious. The mac and cheese with Nashville hot chicken bites were also so good. This was cheesy, and the chicken bites added just the right amount of heat. I also decided to grab the little Nashville hot sandwich just because their sandwiches always hit… and this one did not disappoint - it had that perfect crunch and spice factor.
I have to give a special shout out to the waffle fries! I feel like not enough places serve them, so I love that Chen Chen’s does. Crispy, golden, and tasty whether you get them seasoned with spice or even just plain with their aioli dip!
By far my fav fried chicken spot in the city and now it’s even easier to get to! Will deffo be making many...
Read moreVery very rare that the food and service is truly a 10/10 but I was blown away when I visited Chen Chen's. I feel like restaurants often lose one or the other as demand increases, lowering their service and gaining a sense of entitlement, or cutting corners and decreasing the quality of the food which once made them popular. When I went to Chen Chen's, I had a great experience from the start, when the guy at the front desk gave us an extra drink. It was a small gesture, but it went a long way in making us feel welcome. As we were eating one of the owners came out to ask us how we were enjoying the food and apologized for the wait (even though we felt it was pretty standard) and gave us a new menu item for us to give our opinion on. Although the service was enough to blow me away, it was matched with amazing food, the chicken sandwich was on point, as were the fries and the mac and cheese. I cannot do it justice through words, so you will have to believe me and visit for yourself. I will definitely be back. I really wanted to include the names of the two that helped me out but they were more traditional names so I am not 100% sure how to spell them, but they started with the letter V and the letter G. Those two especially...
Read moreDisclaimer: I can't eat spicy food. It hurts my tummy.
I knew going in, that this would be an honest review. If I found the Nashville Chicken Burger too spicy, I'd have to stop eating it for the safety of my future throne sittings. As soon as I opened the packaging of my Nashville Hot Chicken Sando ordered in medium, I felt the heat from the spice rise through my nostrils. It was beyond pleasant, and borderline daring me to consume it. That first bite will forever be remembered as the best and possibly last spicy chicken sandwich I'll ever eat. I devoured it, pickles, bread and sauces were not wasted through this meal. I dare say, it was the best hot chicken sandwich I've ever had. Extremely juicy meat, crispy breading, and flavourful heat that keeps you craving the next bite. For anyone who enjoys spice, I definitely recommend Chen Chen's. And if you're curious about the heat, but worried it may be too much for your belly, I say it's worth the pain. Oh...
