I came here on a Tuesday evening with my family. It wasn't too busy when we arrived so we were seated fairly quickly. Cho Won is a super friendly family owned business which is hidden from the main street of Yonge St. The entrance is off to a smaller street on Drewry Ave and it has free parking in front of the restaurant.
We ordered the Mandoo Jungol which is a dumpling soup with vegetables in hot pot. As with a typical Korean hot pot, it is loaded with a variety of ingredients such as tofu, mushrooms and green vegetables.
The dumplings was very filling and filled with deliciousness. There were no spiciness added to this jungol which are perfect for those individuals who are non-spicy lovers. We ended up ordering an extra noodle because there wasn't enough but the portion size is good for two people. Unfortunately, it doesn't include rice. There are other Korean hot pot places that do include rice.
It comes with side dishes (banchan) that include tofu, spicy cucumber salad, kimchi, bean sprouts, soy braised peanuts and braised potatoes. These 6 side dishes can be refillable so feel free to eat as much as your heart's content.
Our family loved the dumpling hot pot more because it was easier on our weight (after the fact) and tasted healthier. For the price it was listed at ($38.99), I would say it was worth it and would recommend giving this a try 👍.
Overall, the service was friendly and they had a button to call the server over. I definitely would come again to try out their Korean...
Read moreUsually, we order bulgogi from there. The main dish and side dishes are perfect. Sometimes they give less side dishes, but overall it is awesome. My family loves this food, and almost every week we order from this restaurant at least once. Updated review: I wanted to update my previous review. As I mentioned before, the food was perfect, and my family used to order from here almost every week. However, recently we’ve noticed some issues. Sometimes, one of the side dishes is missing from the package, and when we call, they insist it was included. This has happened two or three times.
In our most recent order, my wife was shocked to see that the portion size of the bulgogi dish was almost half of what it used to be. There were also only two small side dishes included. When I called to complain, the owner seemed a bit defensive. After placing me on a long hold, he told me that each dish contains 300 grams of meat, but it was clearly much less than that.
As a business owner, he should have offered to make it right—perhaps by asking me to bring the food in and trying to make the customer happy. Instead, he simply insisted we were wrong.
Unfortunately, I won’t be ordering from here anymore. I hope they reconsider how they treat their...
Read moreIf it weren't for the other Korean restaurants being closed on Tuesdays, I might not have stumbled across this establishment. On the outside, it just seems like your typical Korean restaurant but wow, their menu is HUGE. The staff here aren't very fluent in English, which is a quiet confirmation that this place is going to be good (lol). Anyhow, a lot of their dishes for sharing are huge, we had to request for something small that would be suitable for 2 people. Some tables are set up for kbbq, but we only wanted something simple. I've never had the Al Tang (spicy pollock roe stew), so when the waitress recommended it, I was like ....woah lol. They packed it with tons of roe and personally, I don't think everyone will like it (for the rough and funny texture), definitely something new for me.
The portions for all their dishes are pretty large, and at $25/person, we were definitely well fed. We even packed some food home for lunch. I wasn't as impressed by the side dishes, where are my favourite sweet potatoes and seaweed? Their service was pretty good, just remember to press the bell behind you to get their attention. This place deserves a solid 3.5 stars, but giving them that extra push for having good customer service and...
