Quite honestly the worst dining experience I've had in Toronto - There is an active hornet or wasp infestation in the outdoor area of this restaurant. At the worse point 7 were swarming us at our table.
I came with a friend. There was a wait for the table, but the hostess was great, friendly and checked us into the list quickly. When we finally got our table, we ordered food for my friend's baby and the server forgot a portion of the order. I do think the food she ordered made it back to the table before the server did to take our orders. There was maybe a hornet or so that would buzz around with just the chicken on the table. The worse part all started with orange juice for the baby- about 2 or 3 hornets started swarming the juice including landing on the straw and I'm the juice. We moved it across the table so they could just have it. Long story short: the food and drinks took an incredibly long time to come out [including a mojito which was swarmed by the insects and we needed a reorder after one again landed in the drink]. Another server seemed to be a bit more empathic to the problem we were having with the hornets and both told us that it's been a common problem even if people move tables.
I personally killed at least 3 or 4 of them as they landed on my friend's handbag and on her baby's bottle. Multiple landed on her baby. I think all the insect issues were exacerbated by the fact that the food took so long to come out. All in all it was $75 spent on a mediocre meal, below satisfactory service and wondering who would be stung first out of me, her, the baby and my pup. The waitress knew we were unhappy and really made no real attempt to rectify things other than taking the juice away and offering a coaster to cover to top of the mojito to make it less likely another hornet would land in. Hard. Pass. This place has potential, but desperately needs...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was an experience of mixed ratings. We arrived without a reservation. We were told we could only be seated at a table without an umbrella. Not great due to the intense heat and sun of the day... but ok. We did not anticipate being there that long. Wrong!
Let me say the bar service was excellent. The wait staff hustled and got our drinks quickly, and made a point to come back regularly. Thank goodness.
The food service was less than satisfactory. The kitchen pop ups are way back in the compound. Orders had to be run from one end to the other. We had to wait 50 minutes for our food from when I began to time things. And remember this was in the blazing sun! Our waiter kept coming back, checked on the food, and kept apologizing.
Finally the food came. The Joybird chicken was moist and the crust was crispy. Not bad. The noodles were okay. The dirty fries were less than stellar with pieces of green onion sparsely sprinkled on them. They were not what I expected dirty fries to be. A basically underwhelming experience for something we had looked forward to.
There should be umbrellas for all guests at all times. To expect people to sit in direct sunlight is inappropriate and unhealthy. You should be prepared for kitchen issues. If guests want sun the umbrella can be kept down. If they want shade they can have it up.
The food service must be streamlined. The wait time was totally unacceptable. If the kitchen was overwhelmed that is a problem, but should not effect the service I receive.
Food served should come close to specs.
Stackt is a great concept. The bar/brewery is a great inclusion. Having heard of Joybird, we were looking forward to trying it. But we left...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMet up with a colleague that I havenāt seen in awhile, the day was going so great, the Stackt market was celebrating their birthday, the sun was shining but it all fell short when the bartender here was so rude and made us feel so uncomfortable with her attitude when we ordered our drinks. The cocktail list said 16$ however she charged me over 20$ for an aperol spritzā¦which I found to be very steep especially after dining at many fine dining restaurants in the city and the average for an aperol spritz is typically 14$-16$.It put such a damper on the mood, I donāt know if maybe she was having an off day but either way her hospitality was seriously lacking. To make matters worse we bought drinks from a neighbouring vendor and that same bartender that was done her shift was standing around on her phone on Bathurst street infront of the market and she began to yell at us in front of a bunch of people telling us we couldnāt bring outside liquor. My colleague and I did not even know how to respond to this bartender who was off her shift trying to police us, it was quite...
