I've been wanting to try Congo Coffee and Toronto Beignets for a while. Today I ordered the cold cappuccino and 5 pack of beignets. When my order arrived, the coffee was sealed with duct tape which I personally thought was strange. My beignets were in a basic wax paper bag, it was covered in grease and leaking onto the paper bag that everything was placed into. The coffee was pretty small but it was good, had good sweetness and coffee aroma was good. Beignets were crispy, warm, slightly fluffy, cakey, tasty and fresh. I asked for a heavy coating of powdered sugar on my beignets but didn't receive more than a spoon or two - it barely covered the beignets. Overall it was quite expensive on Ubereats, maybe I need to make a trip to the store to order for a better experience. To add, I am pretty unimpressed with the response from the owner but I will respond to this manner. If you are representing yourself on Ubereats, doesn't mean that a review cannot be made. Same way if I were to order off of a fancy restaurant on Ubereats, I can most definitely leave a review on their Google Review to inform others of my experience and I don't believe I did anything wrong nor did I go out of my way. When I said basic wax paper bag, it does not mean that it is not fancy enough. It is a basic bag just like how Tim Horton's uses a basic bag for their donuts. Thank you for your rude comment, but no I am not keeping the bags. Also I will attach photos of the grease that leaked through the bag just so you're aware for your customers and ubereats drivers/cyclists. You can't sit here and tell me that duct tape isn't slightly strange to see placed on a cup but based on the situation I now understand so thank you. But if your ubereats cyclist is having to duct tape a drink for you, consider better packaging. There are sticky paper tabs similar to Starbucks, I'm sure they're cheap in bulk. I am not sure why you're taking this review out so hard on a single reviewer. This is MY personal experience and at the end of the day it's to benefit YOU. As a small business owner as well, consider this a helping hand and not a bashful review. You can read 100 nice reviews but that 1 odd review is what will take you 5 steps further. But to add, I didn't even give you a 1 or 2 star, I gave you a 3 star review. After reading your response, I will not be supporting your business. If you'd like to continue this conversation, feel free to email me but do not humiliate yourself on the internet as there seems to a be a record on here of your attitude. Also I've never been to your location, must be confusing me with someone else.

wow this place is filthy, avoid at all cost! if you were trying to make a training video of “all the things not to do in a food establishment” just go this place for research on food and safety. I got an indigestion after struggling to drink 1/3 of this ice coffee with oat milk, which prompted me to look at the bottom of my cup and found some hard black and white clumps floating at the bottom of my drink. ****before you read the rest of my comment just go look at what the owner replies to everyone who leaves a negative comment about her restaurant and that should tell you exactly the kind of service you’re going to receive.****** Not only was the coffee horrible, but the lady who works there, who I found out also owns the place, is really the rudest and unprofessional worker I’ve yet to meet in this industry. From her work attire to handle food is definitely violating food and safety rules, she was also picking up containers, and jars from the dirty floor to make the drinks and beignets as her counters and tables were cluttered. My girlfriend and I wanted to support a black owned business while in toronto and I saw this place had positive reviews so I made a detour and drove across town. This lady rolled her eyes at every question you asked about her menu like she was irritated about a customer trying to learn about what she offered and buy from her. Her cold drinks menu is outside in the front and inside she had a menu for beignets and other drinks that were warm, after reading the menu outside and the one inside to make my choice, I asked her if she could remind me of the cold drinks selection she had, she rolled her eyes and told me the menu was outside, so essentially she wanted me to go back out and read the menu instead of just telling me the 3 cold drinks that were listed I guess that was too much effort for her. Overall, worst customer service ever, owner had the worst energy I experienced in Toronto, extremely condescending attitude that was really not justified. To the owner: Maybe clean up your place, store your food properly, and if customer service and genuine human interaction is not your thing, think of hiring a decent human being to work the front while you stay in the back, and do the marketing because I’ll guve you that you have a nice website.

We were passing through the cabbage town and we came across this place while looking for a new coffee and dessert place to try. We ordered two americanos, one set of beignets with powdered sugar and another set of beignets with Chantilly cream and chocolate. The online order process was easy to follow, and the wait time was reasonable. The employee was very polite and pleasant to us during our very brief interaction (due to the covid 19 restrictions). The Americanos were okay, nothing to write home about. I wish they offered lighter roast option as I prefer less burnt tasting americanos and coffee in general, and I feel like a lighter roast would have helped distinguish their drinks more from other dark roast americanos offered at more generic cafes such as Starbucks. The beignets, on the other hand, were much more memorable. They were very crispy on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. It reminded me of the mini donuts you get at carnivals, except the sweetness was more delicate and better balanced. The powdered sugar and the Chantilly cream were perfect complements to the beignets, as they added onto the flavour profile and texture elements of the beignets without overpowering them. It is great place to stop by during a tour around the cabbage Park, and it is a quick walk from the riverdale east park as well. I will definitely coming back to this place to try their beignets again and also their beverages intended for warmer weather.
