I recently had the misfortune of dining at this hotpot restaurant, and I can confidently say it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The entire experience, from start to finish, was a disaster, and I cannot understand how this establishment is still in business.
Environment Let’s start with the basics—the environment. It was dirty, poorly maintained, and far from the clean and welcoming atmosphere you would expect from a restaurant charging nearly $50 per person. It felt like cleanliness and hygiene were not a priority at all, which immediately set a negative tone for the meal.
Service The service was absolutely appalling. We called for the waiter multiple times, and they simply ignored us. When they finally approached us, their attitude was shockingly rude. They rushed us to order the soup base, speaking as if they were doing us a favor by even serving us. This lack of respect and professionalism is completely unacceptable. It didn’t end there. At one point, the staff dropped beef and lamb on the floor right in front of us! Instead of discarding it, they casually put it back on the plate and served it to us as if nothing had happened. I was horrified. This complete disregard for basic hygiene and food safety is absolutely inexcusable.
Food Quality The food itself was no better. The meat had no flavor or quality to speak of, and the fat on the cuts had turned yellow—clear evidence of old, stale ingredients. None of the food tasted fresh, and I found myself questioning the safety of eating any of it. It’s absolutely ridiculous to pay nearly $50 per person for such substandard quality. To serve stale, tasteless meat and drop it on the floor before serving it is beyond unacceptable.
Overall This restaurant epitomizes everything that could go wrong with a dining experience. From the dirty environment to the rude and inattentive service, and finally to the inedible and unhygienic food, this place fails on every single level. I left feeling disgusted, disappointed, and absolutely baffled that this restaurant is allowed to operate. Save your money, your time, and your sanity—avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other hotpot spots that actually value their customers and provide decent food and service. This is a place I will never return to and cannot...
Read moreThis was the first hot pot of the winter season for me so I was super excited to try a place I have never been to. There were a lot of new places I have not been to but ultimately I decided on Da Hu.
The restaurant looked nicely decorated with bright lights in the downstairs dining area. Our table was on the second floor which was still fine but did not look as nice as the ground floor dining area. Regardless, the tables upstairs were nicely spaced out and everything seemed clean. As a note definitely make a reservation as we came here on a weekend evening and people were turned away at the door as they were full for the night.
The staff there were great as they were extremely busy but took the time to answer any questions and were trying to fulfill any requests/accommodations that guests were making so great job staff. The problem I did have was that due to the fact that we were on the second floor, we had to order through the staff and not through the phone. This became a problem as it was difficult at times to flag down the staff as they were busy and each time we tried to order larger quantities so that we did not have to flag down the staff as often, we ended up with essentially the same portion sizes and often we did not get all the items we requested. At the end of the night we did have a lot of food so this is just a minor issue.
In terms of ingredient quality, there was a good selection for soup bases and the ingredients itself covers most of the basics you would want for hot pot. The quality of the ingredients was decent and the only special offering which jumped out at me were frog legs (which I did not try) but other than that the offerings are pretty standard fare so it should satisfy your hot pot cravings. The sauce station selection is a bit limited compared to other restaurants I have been to but many of the basics were there.
All in all this first experience at Da Hu was pretty positive with minor hiccups. If you are looking to satisfy your hot pot craving then Da Hu is a good place to do that for a...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Dahu Hotpot
I recently dined in at Dahu hotpot in Toronto on a Saturday in Toronto, and unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. While the space is modern and well-designed with an appealing orange-themed decor, the quality of the food and overall value left much to be desired.
The biggest issue was the flavour profile - the server recommended two most popular types of the most popular broths - everything was overwhelmingly spicy with little depth, making it difficult to enjoy the nature flavours of the ingredients.
Additionally, the all you can eat selection for making sauces and pickles was very basic, lacking variety and quality, which is disappointing for the price point. At over $50 per person, I expected a much higher standard in both food and service.
The most concerning aspect, however, was the cleanliness of the washroom. They were noticeably unkempt, which raises questions about overall hygiene standards.
A restaurant of this caliber should prioritize cleanliness, especially in high-traffic areas.
Overall, Dahu hotpot does not offer good value for the price, and given the lackluster of food and poor maintenance, I cannot recommend it.
There's are far better hot pot options in Toronto that provide a more enjoyable...
