TL:DR - Very poor management and poor business handling. Inconsistent prices compared to online menu. Cannot review completely on food because we didn't end up staying for the full dining experience. Based on other reviews it looks like food wasn't as enjoyable either for the price point.

The long version: I am not one to go out of my way to write up a review like this but felt the need to because it was a very unpleasant dining (or lack thereof) experience yesterday. This is a poorly managed place with poor and unprofessional management. Firstly, around 7pm when dinner rush is expected, they decided to set up a live band right at the front entrance where there is already no room to stand and wait to be seated. So basically as I walked in there were at least 7 other people that walked in behind us and we all awkwardly stood there waiting for the hostess, trying not to block the view of the band or breathe down the necks of the diners seated right there. The hostess who greeted me acknowledged my reservation for 4 people however after a few minutes of waiting comes back with whom I believe to be the manager to tell me that they have a very large group coming in later and not enough room to accommodate my group of 4. Then he goes suggesting if we'd like to instead sit outside on their patio as they have heat lamps. At this point I'm like WTF?! I made a reservation too and am not going to sit outdoors in 9 degree weather. So after I said no thanks and prefer indoors they end up having to re-organize the table setting for the large group reservation so that my group of 4 could be accommodated (but it felt like THEY were being inconvenienced). It gets worse from here. We find out from our server (whom we actually appreciated for his service) that there is a special menu that night for Day of the Dead & only the tasting menu was available or a very few select mains (just 2 mains in fact). Our server did tell us 'twice' when we asked again that ANY of the tasting menu options could be ordered a la carte. Sadly we were looking forward to the regular menu but because one of my friends has dietary restrictions (for Krohns) we didn't see that she could eat much on the special menu. We proceeded to order drinks instead and order the guacamole dip to share and find another restaurant so my friend would find more options she could eat. The manager comes back again, after I guess finding out we only ordered one appetizer and a round of drinks to tell us we must order the tasting menu and cannot just order an appetizer. (Even though that's what our server mentioned to us). At this point my friends and I have had it, especially for being inconvenienced by the reservation mix up and finding out the regular menu isn't available let alone for me having to explain of my friends dietary restrictions....we all just felt so cringe with how he approached us unprofessionally as if we were in the wrong, wasting a table setting! We ended up making a reservation elsewhere and decided to just settle our bill. The last surprise was the inclusion of a 18% tip on our bill for guacamole and a round of drinks! When we brought it up, our waiter actually apologized to us for the experience we had at the restaurant and said he understood what it's like to be a customer too. Overall I wish I could say that I would give the restaurant another chance (as we were planning to drop a lot of money that night) but likely won't be based on first experience. Also the prices were insanely high for mediocre margaritas and flavourless guac. I also noticed the drink prices were higher than what's indicated online. Meh, not worth returning. Just my...

Although I really enjoyed the food, drinks, and ambiance at Mexhico Restaurant, I was deeply disappointed by their establishment's professionalism and accountability to uphold their happy hour offer.

When I received my bill, I noticed how I was charged for the (1) wrong entrée, and (2) full price for my drink. When I asked the staff to double-check and correct the amount, they came back and said my order was placed after the 3-6 pm happy hour period. In that moment, I asked, "How is that possible when everyone else received their happy hour discount except for me?" They did not offer to check again or ask to understand the situation further. I did not want to challenge or argue further, as I was with friends whom I had not seen for a long time.

I couldn't let go, however, because I did not understand how this could have been possible... I arrived before 5pm and left just before 8 pm. I was neither the last one to arrive in my party nor the last one to order a drink.

After leaving the restaurant and looking back at photos I had taken, I noticed one where I had received my drink by 5:13 pm. The waiter who brought and double checked my bill, therefore, fully lied to me. I find this very unprofessional and disappointing. The staff was dishonest and the restaurant lacked accountability to abide by their own offers.

Although I know it's human to make mistakes, I cannot appreciate how busy or overwhelmed the staff could have been to make an error like this when my friends and I were the only table seated in the entire restaurant before 5 pm. I feel bad saying this, but I will not recommend Mexhico Restaurant in Baldwin Village to anybody who values professionalism, honesty, or accountability to abide by the offers a business outwardly promotes.

I know what I am writing this review immediately after a poor experience, but what I've described above is objective evidence.

Basically... Check your bill and hold businesses accountable! Otherwise, there is neither going to be trust nor...

We went for supper on a Friday night. Bright cheerful place, a little too bright in my opinion. We walked in and we were happy to be seated right away. We waited 10-15 mins before someone came to our table. We had already looked through the menu and decided on drinks and food. When the waiter finally arrived at our table we were directed on how to access the menu (which we already had plenty of time to do. We placed our order in full for drinks, apps and mains at all at the same time. Drinks came first, followed closely by our app. Our app was delicious. Our mains came before we finished our app, we had a very small table so we were running out of space. No one took away our used plates. In fact not once did someone come to our table to ask how our food was, to ask if we needed anything (we needed water and napkins), nothing no service at all. They came to collect the plates after we had finished but didn’t asked how it was or if we wanted dessert (we did). We waited another 15 mins for someone to come so we decided against dessert. We had to flag someone to bring our bill. I was really disappointed in the service. I was also disappointed that there were no other “traditional” options for food. Enchiladas was the only option like that on the menu and it was only available Sat and Sun 10-2. So we chose tacos, short rib and shrimp. Shrimp was a huge portion but they could not be picked up as they fell apart, they did taste great. Lastly I used the restroom before we left. Clean and bright but no toilet paper and trash bin is overflowing. I looked at the brunch menu and while it looks promising I would be going back. There are much better Mexican options in Toronto that offer more that street food style Mexican. And as for the For a most upscale experience I was very disappointed. On a final note, for guests celebrating their birthday they sing Happy Birthday but it is soo loud and makes you jump every time they “surprise” someone. Way...

Came in and was able to get a table right away around 8:30pm on a Friday. Just came to try their desserts and drinks. They have a pretty spacious dining room and quite a few seats out in their patio too. It took a long time for our server to come, and when he did it came off pretty aggressive. He opened by asking us what do we know about “real” Mexican food and asked if “all we knew” about the cuisine was tacos… I don’t know if the intention was to get on a casual level, but it’s not an approach that would work with every guest, and can be insulting for some (specially if those guests have been waiting on you for some time for that to be their greeting). The Margarita Toronja cocktail was fine. It had a nice spice rim. I found the skull shaped glass mostly gimmicky and impractical to drink out of. After halfway through the drink, it was hard to taste much aside from melted ice. The caramel flan and the chocolate tamal desserts came on these big sled looking wood pieces. These sleds looked like they were handmade, and you can see the glue gun blobs and stuff. I guess I thought it was a unique and kind of fun way to present dishes. However, a few minutes in after eating the desserts, a guy comes and asks for the sleds. We place the dishes on our table, and he takes the sleds and takes them directly to another table. I find this to be unsanitary. I’m not used to seeing restaurant staff bring things that have been on guests’ tables to other guests’ tables without cleaning them. The flan itself was fine, dense and otherwise embellished with a lot of garnishes around it. The chocolate dessert was warm and had an interesting taste and texture. My experience felt awkward overall, and not sure that I had a good impression looking back at my time here.

Deceptive pricing - check attached menu screenshot vs actual bill. One would figure the $21 "Eggs any style" gets you eggs with the listed sides. Turns out $21 gets you two eggs and every side that's listed costs an additional $3. Additionally, the provided menu (QR code) appears outdated in general as several other items on our bill were more expensive than listed. The worst part of having unexpected costs on our bill was receiving them after having our orders come very late. Half the table did receive their meals within a reasonable time frame, but neither my partner or I received our dishes until the rest of our group were already finishing up their meals. I don't expect to be compensated for having my order forgotten about (though it would be nice), but this was like the opposite of that. In defense of the restaurant, some of our group enjoyed their meals, and some have had better experiences here in the past. Our server was friendly if perhaps inexperienced. Perhaps an off day, but the unclear/outdated pricing definitely needs to be addressed. Customers aren't going to feel great about having unexpected charges on their bills; particularly when they have waited an hour for their food.
