I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place and was super excited to find out that they opened a DT location! 😍 I made a B-line to the store after work today and learned that it was actually only the second day of their soft opening! I got there at 625pm and waited exactly an hour to be seated by their friendly & attentive staff. For the soft opening, they’re offering a 10% discount on all orders (excluding drinks) but are only accepting cash or debit for payment.
I came with only my husband today so we didn’t get to try too many items, but everything we did order were very tasty! If you’re ok with eating organs, I would really recommend the crispy pig intestines!! 🐽 As the name suggests, it's crispy on the outside, juicy when you bite into it, and the greasiness is well balanced by the green scallions rolled inside! The crispy chicken skewers were also really delicious 🤤 and of course the standard lamb and beef skewers were good as well. Items I may shy away from next time would be the cabbage as we found it to be quite salty, and we were also a bit put off by the overpowering taste of cooking wine in the chicken wings.
The star of the show was the 锅包肉 (guo bao rou, a type of sweet & sour pork from North-Eastern China). The s&s sauce was SO good and the pork was fried to perfection- crispy on the outside and juicy & tender on the inside. Dare I say this is the best GBR I’ve ever tried in Toronto? 🤤 I really wanna gate keep this but YALL this is FREAKIN GOOD. MUST TRY!!
This restaurant is especially worth trying if you’re a big fan of both tea and alcohol (also how cute is their drinks menu?!). They have a very elaborate and unique selection of mainly alcoholic drinks with a Chinese twist- all made in house. We tried the most popular drink today, which was the dragon in bloom and we were impressed by the distinct flavour of the drink. The staff explained to us that this drink was brewed over several hours and that it infuses the sweetness of ice wine 🥂, balanced out with a kick from vodka and finishes off with the refreshing taste of long jing (a type of Chinese green tea 🍵 ).
Loved everything here & we will definitely be finding our way back...
Read moreThe atmosphere and interior design of the restaurant were absolutely stylish, beautiful , and thoughtfully put together. It created a great first impression the moment we walked in.
In terms of food, it was a mixed experience. The grilled eggplant was by far our favorite dish was perfectly grilled, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. However, the skewers and chili boiled fish fell short. The seasoning and overall taste of both skewers and the fish were not pleasant and, unfortunately, not enjoyable at all.
Service, regrettably, left much to be desired. There were missing items (skewer )in our order and a long delay, we had to ask twice, with about 10 minutes between each request. Until we asked for the bill, we told them the 3rd time on the missing order, one of the server repeatedly told us the missing item was “still cooking” but after waiting for an hour. we don’t mind if we were told order was misplaced , instead of being forced to wait with attitude which added to our frustration.
Thankfully, a younger staff member who helped us at checkout eventually stepped in and handled the situation with sincerity. Her effort truly stood out and was very much appreciated. Honestly, if it weren’t for her, the service wouldn’t have deserved even a single star.
Overall, the restaurant has great potential with its beautiful ambiance and a few standout dishes. However, we strongly recommend improving staff training and ensuring better consistency in food quality and value. These changes could truly elevate the overall dining experience.
We are not writing this to unfairly criticize, we understand how challenging the restaurant business is. This is simply an honest review, shared in hopes that the team will take the feedback constructively and continue to grow. Wishing the restaurant all the best and much success...
Read moreThere are thousands of barbecue restaurants in Toronto, but this one is really unique. The decoration is full of ancient charm, and there is a big fish tank in the middle🐠, with a few small fish swimming around, creating a full atmosphere. The overall taste of the barbecue is good, similar to that of Don Mills. But there are fewer types of skewers than Don Mills, so if you are here for some special skewers, you may feel a little disappointed. The flower sea hides dragons🐔 tail wine is really atmospheric‼ ️ After pouring it into the cup, the peach blossom petals will slowly bloom🌸, and it looks super beautiful! But‼ ️ It is made from 4 kinds of wine, and the alcohol is super strong⚡️, don't underestimate it! I suggest that those who can't drink much should drink slowly. Compared with Don Mills, the wine list is not as complete, and there are no large barrels for sharing. If you like to drink with many people, you may be a little disappointed. The price is a little expensive, but the environment is good, the waiters are also very warm and thoughtful, and the experience is still good. Suitable for a drink + barbecue date, sisters who like the...
