I came here with a couple of my friends on a Sunday evening for a late dinner. One of my friends had suggested this place to try since this was opened recently. Be sure to visit their website to join the waitlist as they don't take reservations for smaller parties if you are looking to try. Daimaru Sukiyaki serves AYCE Japanese hotpot, meaning non-stop veggies and meat simmering in broth. Daimaru is the sister restaurant of the popular chain Gyubee Japanese Grill and is the first all you can eat Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu restaurant in Toronto and the GTA. Their interior decor was very clean, simple and the restaurant itself was big. On the menu, you would find a wide variety of meat to choose from with a particular focus on beef like premium brisket, chuck and wagyu. They also offer some seafood options like shrimp, squid and fish. You would also have your choice of various different veggies, noodles, starches and dumplings as well. There are different choices of dipping sauces to choose from. We ended up ordering the Sukiyaki and Spicy as the flavours and one of each menu items to try. Below is my breakdown of each category: Broth 🍲 The sukiyaki soup base was so yummy! It was our first time trying it and the flavour was slightly sweet and similar to teriyaki sauce but not as strong. As for the spicy broth, it was the perfect amount of spice added and it adds a kick to the flavour when paired with other side dishes. I would give both of these flavours a worth it and a fire 🔥. Meat 🥩 & Seafood 🦐 Their meat was sliced thinly and had excellent marbling. We ordered the premium set which gets you some extra meat options like beef brisket and beef chuck. Their seafood includes shrimp, crabmeat and squid. All of their meat and seafood were high quality and very fresh which made it super delicious, tender and juicy. Once you start eating, you don't want to stop and it melts in your mouth 🤤. Pro tip: Try dipping it in chili garlic soy cilantro sauce for maximum flavour explosion! That is going to get a 'WOW' moment 😋. Dipping Sauces 🥫 There were different sauces to choose from: Garlic soy cilantro, thai chili, ponzu green onion, onsen (soft egg) and sesame. All of these dipping sauces were quite unique and we found the chili garlic soy cilantro to be the best. Be sure to try them all and see which one fits your tastebuds. Side Dishes 🥟 & Vegetables 🥬 All of their tofus and vegetables were fresh. The most notable one is their fukubukuro which are "money bags" filled with shrimp. A chewy bite with combination of the soup flavour made it tasty. The small meatballs are made in house and so cute and bouncy! Dessert 🍮 Pineapple - we were surprised that these chunks of pineapple were perfectly ripe when eaten. It had the ideal amount of sweetness. Crème Brûlée - your typical rich custard base topped with a layer of hardened caramelized sugar. I didn't find this dessert interesting. Taro Chips - these thin slices of taro are seasoned and were super crunchy. We absolutely loved this as it is the perfect snack for food fatigue. Melona Bar - choice of coconut or taro. We were able to take this to go. The taro flavour was so creamy. If you need a nice cold treat, this is the treat for you! I would definitely recommend giving the taro chips and melona bars a try. Both of these are going to get a 'WOW' moment 😋. In comparison to other hotpot options in Toronto, the differences are very noticeable at Daimaru. Their most popular broths like the Sukiyaki, soy milk, Ox bone and help are meant to be light but so that it enhances the quality of the vegetables and meats provided. In addition with their basic and premium set, they also offer patrons the choice of AYCE wagyu beef which is renowned for its marbling and flavour. Note that there would be a 12% service charge added onto the bill. They offer debit or cash only. If paid in cash, there would be $2 discount so be sure to take advantage of this! Overall, we had a very good dining experience and enjoyed all the food. It was worth the wait and I plan to come back 👍.

Daimaru Sukiyaki in Scarborough is a culinary delight for anyone who loves Japanese hot pot. The highlight for me is undoubtedly their sukiyaki broth, a perfect blend of sweetness and umami flavors that elevates every dish. What sets Daimaru apart is not just its exceptional soup base, but also the quality of the meats and the artistic presentation of the dishes. Despite being an all-you-can-eat restaurant, it maintains the quality and feel of an à la carte establishment. The cleanliness of the restaurant and the helpfulness of the servers add to the overall positive experience. They are generous with servings, a pleasant surprise compared to other similar establishments. The variety of ingredients is impressive. The beef, pork, and lamb cuts are top-notch, and the vegetables, tofu, shrimp paste, fish balls, and glass noodles complement the meats beautifully. We opted for the premium package, which I highly recommend to enjoy the full range of options. One of the most amazing aspects of Daimaru is the value. For a group of four, our total bill, including tax and tip, came to just $200 - that’s $50 per person for a high-quality, all-inclusive dining experience. The package even includes dessert, which is a sweet finish to the meal. The restaurant offers ample parking, making it convenient for visitors. The only downside is its popularity, which often leads to long waits due to their policy of only taking reservations for groups of six or more. Joining the waiting list can be a bit of a hassle, but it’s well worth it. Daimaru Sukiyaki offers an outstanding hot pot experience with superb value, quality, and service. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic sukiyaki experience in Scarborough, and I’m definitely planning to return soon.

TLDR: - Service: 7/10 - Food: 6/10 - Value: 6/10 - Overall Experience: 6/10 I had really high hopes for this place considering all the great things I heard and I really wanted to love this place, but I feel like it was overhyped. Honestly there isn't really anything special here that you can't find at other similar restaurants, other than the sukiyaki soup base, which was the only soup base that was noteworthy. You're also looking at an additional $15-18 for the soup base, which is higher than other places. I did appreciate that they refill the soup base with actual soup base and not clear broth, however. The other food items weren't anything too unique either, although I enjoyed the meats. The selection is pretty limited for the price you're paying, but I really enjoyed the onsen eggs and the ponzu sauce that they have, though! I entered the Yelp waitlist around 6pm on a Wednesday night and waited for about an hour for a table for 4 (estimated waiting time on Yelp is pretty accurate). Beware that their tables are quite small and not flexible at all, so it will be best to avoid any last-minute additions to your party. We had an extra person come at the last second, and we had to add a chair to the end of the booth without any leg room (manspreading the whole time, tbh) and wasn't very comfortable. Most other parties in the waitlist are 2-4 people. We also brought a cake to the restaurant, since we were celebrating a birthday. I don't think they're very well-equipped or accustomed to handling birthdays, as they only brought out the cake and nothing else until asked (no plates, forks, knife, lighter for the candle, etc.). The knife they brought out was a little (toy?) plastic knife that doesn't cut anything. We ended up cutting the cake with a pair of scissors we brought (we had a child with us). Ultimately, service just wasn't great for us. Beware that they also automatically add a 12% tip to your bill!

Went on a weekend 10 mins prior to opening time there are already 15 people ahead of us. You need to put your name on the restaurant waiting list by the front desk. Once your table is ready, they will call your name and show you to your table. Waiting time is not that long so I think it's better to go once they open. We're a party of 4 and was given a booth. We opted for the AYCE Lunch Happy Hour and the first step is deciding on a soup base. We chose the 2 flavour soup base and went for the pork bone and sukiyaki broth. The pork bone broth has a lighter and soothing taste while the sukiyaki has the right amount of sweet and salty taste. Next we selected the proteins (meat/seafood), veggies, different kinds of tofu, hot pot classics like spam/quail eggs, noodles of your choice, and lastly the sauce. Food was delicious and you can tell everything is fresh and of high quality ingredients. Our favourite amongst the meat was the thinly sliced lamb - more meaty, extra tender and less greasy compared to the beef brisket and pork belly. You don't even need the dipping sauce since the lamb absorbs the flavour from the broth. Snacks/appetizers are also offered with your AYCE. We enjoyed the deep fried rice cake and takoyaki. Ana at the end of the meal dessert was also included - vanilla ice cream cone or Hokkaido milk pudding. They're just okay plus even without the dessert, the price is worth it. This is our first time dining in Daimaru and it really exceeded our expectations! Service was exceptional and wonderful. Staff were attentive, super nice and quick - either refilling our soup broth or asking if we want to order more. Overall this was an incredible dining experience that my family enjoyed. Highly recommended if you're into hot pot dining.

On a snowy day, my friends and I decided to visit this Japanese-style AYCE hot pot restaurant. Despite the long wait and insufficient indoor waiting space, we stuck around for our turn. Once seated, we opted for the two-flavour broth option, choosing the spicy and tomato broths. The service was impeccable; staff frequently checked on us and quickly delivered tall stacks of fresh cuts, seafood, vegetables, and fruits. The menu layout made ordering easy, although downloading a PDF was a minor inconvenience. Cooking our food in the flavourful broths was a delightful experience. The spicy broth, rich with chilli oil and Szechuan peppercorn, and the tangy tomato soup enhanced the taste of every ingredient. A variety of sauces, from garlic soy to ponzu and a sukiyaki-style onsen egg, added layers of flavour and kept each bite interesting. A notable design feature was the individual bowls with compartments beneath to drain excess liquid – a thoughtful touch that enhanced the meal. Dessert options, including crème brûlée and milk pudding, provided a sweet ending. Unfortunately, the melona we got seems to have been replaced by ice cream cones now. Drink options were disappointing; the Lychee Mojito seemed to lack alcohol, and the Pineapple Juice was nothing special. Also, the bottomless pop prices felt overpriced, considering that we have one stomach and more beverage in it would mean less food consumed. Daimaru sets itself apart in a city full of AYCE hot pot options with its food variety and attentive service. While I thought the drink prices were steep, the food quality and selection, along with the restaurant's thoughtful touches, make it worth a recommended spot for a delicious hot pot experience with friends.

We have tried many hotpot places in town but there was nothing like Daimaru Sukiyaki. This Japanese style sukiyaki hotpot restaurant is newly opened and everything there looks great. The ambiance was cozy and made us feel like dining in Japan. The quality of the food was fresh, the meat was tender and the portion was very reasonable for all you can eat (AYCE). The food came out consistent every time we reordered something. The servers were very friendly and helpful. During this visit, we ordered the Premium Set which included meat and seafood (scallops, oysters and shrimp paste) and two flavour broths (Famous Japanese Sukiyaki & Ox Bone). Although it was quite pricey for a lunch but, given 2 hours dining time to enjoy all our food and a very pleasant experience, it was worth it. Will sure go back again very soon! Since we had a great experience last time, that’s why we decided to come here again for Father’s Day celebration. We used the Yelp Apps to schedule our booking for 6:30pm. This app was very useful! It allowed us to queue up and avoid long waiting time when we get there during dinner time. When we arrived at the restaurant at around 6:30pm, it was less than 30 mins waiting. If you do not use the apps ahead of time, there maybe 20-30 tickets ahead of you. We ordered the Premium Set again but this time they did not have fresh oysters so, they replaced it with snakehead fish fillet instead. Our server was very helpful and attentive to our table the whole time (2hrs all you can eat). The food quality was good and everything tasted very fresh. This is definitely a good choice for hot pot.
