In short: Don't go there. It's not sanitary and the female owner is rude. They're payment system is weird and forced me to tip.
When I first walked in, the restaurant smelled and the tables were sticky. The male owner greeted me kindly so I just thought it was understandable since I went to an old restaurant to eat cheonggukjang (fermented soybean soup). However, as soon as I opened the lid of the rice bowl, there was red pepper powder stuck to the inside and there was a small fly floating on the edge of the cucumber salad that was served as a side dish. I didn't want to make a fuss while introducing Korean food to my foreign friend, so I quietly put it aside. The taste of the food was average. While I was having my meal, I heard the female owner taking a phone order for marinated crab and cheonggukjang. She asked whether it would be a cash or card payment and charged about forty something dollars. Knowing that Asian restaurants prefer cash payments and usually offer a 5-10% discount for them, I prepared cash after overhearing the call. The total came to $36 plus tax (which is $41), and I paid $44. Then she asked, "What abou the tip?" I thought she might be asking for the change, so I replied, "You can keep the change." She then asked again, "Is there no tip?" I wondered if I had misheard her, so I asked, and she said "You're not paying any tip?" In the end, I panicked and paid $5 more and left. As someone who also relies on tips, I think that if a customer doesn't tip, you should first carefully ask them if there was something they didn't like. I didn't intend not to tip, and I gave them more than a penny for the tip when paying, but they kept asking for more tip, which was very embarrassing and unpleasant. I felt like I was robbed. It suddenly started pouring down rain as I was leaving the restaurant, and walking to the TTC parking lot, which was 3-4 minutes away, wasn't a good experience too. You guys should fix the information that there is no parking lot. And also make sure the payment...
Read moreCute Korean restaurant about 3-5 min walk from Finch Subway station. Tip: exit through the passenger pickup area of Finch station if you're walking, that's the closest exit to the restaurant.
I came here specifically to try their Ganjang Gejang (raw blue crab marinated in soy sauce), it seems that they might be the only restaurant that serves this dish in Toronto, that I could find and know of. There is a very slight fishy smell when I sniffed it, which is expected since it's raw crab, but when I was eating it, I didn't find it fishy at all, it was really delicious. The crab roe was soft and rich, the meat was smooth and fresh, everything went really well with the rice. I can see why this dish is called a rice thief now. I was really tempted to order another bowl of rice but on account of my diet I stopped myself. I would definitely try this dish again.
I also ordered the kimchi stew and my friend got a spicy beef soup. Although it was not as outstanding as the Ganjang Gejang, Both were delicious and portions were good.
The side dishes were good as well. Not sure if there's free refills or not since we didn't ask for any.
The service was good, it's a smaller shop, seems like it's family owned. People were doing multi jobs so if you wanted more tea or something you have to ask them, they do really try to check up you though and would walk around once in awhile to refill your tea and see how you're doing.
Overall a good dining experience, I would come back to try their raw crab. However if I was just going out for Korean food then I may not specifically go out of my way to come here since although the other dishes were good, it's not super outstanding.
Aside from indoor dining they also have outdoor dining, there's a big white tent outside, they provides pretty good shelter, there's also hanging lights out there, really cute set up. We dined inside though since...
Read moreThe worst Korean restaurant that I ever visited. Terrible service, rude, tough, unwelcoming, and cold staff who are always frown, racist and discriminatory against the non Korean clients to the point they never reply us when greet them or say thanks; they make the clients lose their faces and get embarrassed instead of getting satisfied and feel happy for enjoying the food and the good service. The team work are day spoilers number one. They do their best not to serve you but to resent you by their unfriendly way and unlovely attitude. They give bad name to korean restaurants and smear Korean culture. Moreover the food isn’t yummy and too expensive for nothing than some bones as if they are for dogs with a small slice of meat that needs a microscope to be seen. We’ve been through hard times and a bad experience with bad mode so we will never repeat it again. It is a sort of spread of negative energy and bad vibes around you. This kind of restaurants should be boycotted for breaching human rights and breaking hospitality rules. Inspite of paying tips, we never get a simple smile on their frown, angry faces. We felt alienated in this xenophobic restaurant, it’s supposed that we are all Canadians with multiculturalism, inclusion, and diversity mind. We should be in unity not in splitting, insociability, and ghetto’s mentality, this is the broadminded liberal values of Canada that we should follow, respect, and preach that we have been raised on. I highly unrecommend it for you inner peace, mode safety, avoiding trauma. Why you spend money for getting traumatised and feeling unhappy for being persona non grata while you can spend it in fun and full belly at the...
