ive been here twice now and it would be hard to convince me to come here a third time. forbidden city has some good and bad points to talk about, mostly bad.
some good points are that it is a very spacious place with plenty of spots to sit, rest, and get away from the crowd. its not too hot or cold inside and the bathrooms are clean. the speakers sound good throughout the venue. the DJs are amazing and they are a huge saving factor.
first of all, security is rude. this is a pretty common problem in toronto venues and i will mention it for here. my friend was trying to get a picture with the headlining DJs when security got angry and told him 'you already took a picture' when he didnt. even if he did, he waited in line like everyone else to pose with our group. i also saw one guard leave their post at the building to yell rude comments at a group standing outside away from the front door. even if this group had been kicked out, the event was over and they were clearly leaving/waiting for an uber.
second, the venue is difficult to travel to whether its by car or transit. it's isolated from any restaurants or other services (like convenience stores) and i didnt see any food being sold at the bar. i would also like to mention the lack of accessibility, it looks like stairs are the only way to get into the venue, i didnt see an elevator around.
third, water is $10 and they include a tip in the total and the machine asks for additional tip. at least provide a water station with cups like any other decent venue if you are going to charge this much for bottled water. there are high energy DJs playing and people need to stay hydrated. as mentioned before, there are no convenience stores around, so you cant avoid this stupid pricing. also, if you are buying shots, you are paying for these tiny disposable plastic cups.
my last issue is with the bottle service. when me and my friends did bottle service, the bottle girls looked incredibly unhappy and bored out of their mind. the table service at any other venue is fun and entertaining! the lack of 'party' was disappointing.
forbidden city has potential to be an iconic place. i hope they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy visit last Saturday for VINAI was met with some very concerning and unfair practices by security. First, upon a full body pat-down, the female security confiscated my pre-roll joint, stating it was "club policy", despite acknowledging it is legal. Second, she confiscated my CBD vape cartridge, stating that it wasn't 'legal' yet and even if it was, she didn't want me vaping inside. I insisted CBD wasn't outlawed, but she said she had no way of verifying, which I don't see to a valid reason regardless, as phase-two of legalization for THC concentrates was passed on Oct. 17. Meanwhile, dozens of other patrons carrying nicotine vapes are welcomed in...so much for the "club policy"? I didn't want to bother fighting the pre-roll confiscation as it only costed a few dollars, but offered to pass off the cartridge to a friend outside, as it was a hefty $60+ purchase. She refused, saying they wouldn't know whether I was simply placing the cartridge somewhere on my body, and that she was uncomfortable 'searching certain areas', which I again don't see as a valid reason, as there were a handful of male security present at the time. The unwarranted security measures coupled with a cash-only bar makes this a 1 star, which is a shame because the venue itself and the sound system is not bad.
TL;DR: Unwarranted security measures that are extremely anti-420 make this a poor visit for anyone wanting a night out in...
