A lady who works here was rude to me and my wife the other day. Iām Canadian and grew up in Toronto, but I live in the US now, and me and my wife were visiting from the US for New Years. This shop only takes cash and debit cards. I tried to use my US debit card, which they didnāt take. The lady informed me they donāt take non-Canadian cards. Iāve never had a Canadian (or any) store not take an international card, but I didnāt mind at all. Itās their shop - they can take whatever form of payment they want. That was not the issue. I then tried to use my Canadian credit card, but it didnāt work because it wasnāt a debit card. The lady said they take US dollars but at a very unfavorable exchange rate. We politely said we would pass on buying anything this time. Everything until now was fine and how it should be. They wanted a form of payment. I didnāt have it. We part ways politely. But she didnāt leave it there. She made rude comments about how we Americans (Iām Canadian) need to be better prepared and exchange cash when we travel because when she and Canadians travel, they need to exchange cash. It came off as rude and out of the blue. We didnāt say anything and just left because we didnāt want to be rude back and make a scene. As mentioned, Iām Canadian and grew up in Toronto. I also visit Canada numerous times a year and have never had an issue using a US card, so when I come back to visit, I donāt usually walk around with Canadian dollars. But again, the payment form isnāt the issue - itās the fact that without knowing our back story, she made numerous false assumptions about us, who we are, where weāre from, what weāre like, then got herself ruled up and offended, and spurt out rude remarks, all totally unprovoked. She brought her personal/emotional/political baggage and views into an interaction that simply didnāt warrant it. We were just trying to buy cheese. We need to bring back respect and kindness to daily interactions. And we need to stop imposing our personal views and beliefs into random, everyday situations that donāt warrant it....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've bought some wonderful cheeses from here over the years, but my recent experiences have made me decide I will never be going back. The customer service really leaves something to be desired, and I always get the feeling that I am being ripped off because they are not transparent with how they weigh and price their products. It seems that unless you're buying half a wheel of cheese, they don't think you're worth their time and treat you poorly. This kind of behaviour, time after time, is not OK.
Yesterday I stopped here to buy some olives for a pasta dish I was going to make for dinner. When I went up to the counter I was met with the usual surly disposition of everyone who works here. Since I didn't need that many olives, I asked for half of a small container. The person helping me filled the container and asked, "How's that?" I said "Oh, I don't need as many, maybe just half of that." She told me she couldn't give it to me unless I bought a minimum of 100 grams, while holding a container of olives that would obviously have weighed much more than that. I asked "Since when?" and she said "Since always." Then another person behind the counter told me that no matter where I went there'd be a 100g minimum, even at Bulk Barn. Not that I love shopping at Bulk Barn, but anyone who has been there knows that that's not at all true. Anyway, I thanked them and said I didn't feel like supporting a business that treats me like I'm not worth their time. I also put back the cheeses I was about to buy, and decided right then and there that I will never be going back.
How do these people get away with doing this every single time, and more importantly, why should we customers put up with being treated this way? The owners of this store need to realize that they are not doing us a favour by operating this place. This is...

Worth bringing a passenger to prevent a parking ticket as stopping is allowed if parking is unavailable.
The customers are upbeat and never bitter. If one has issues with this store they should give this place another chance. Other stores use too much bleach on their floors. This place is super clean and the glass is so clear its invisible every time i have been.
