I came here looking for coffee, and I found something more.
I saw a young man roasting and shaving beans in front of me. I saw him grind coffee. I saw him meticulously pull a shot of espresso. It was delicious, like taking a bite of fruit.
Sipping on my espresso, many thoughts came to my mind. The first thing I thought was how so much of reality was black boxed to us. The entire experience of ordering coffee, in most places, might as well be entirely opaque. No surprise then, that robot coffee storefronts like “RC Coffee” have become popular — it’s a logical conclusion of the independent coffee shop to Starbucks to Fast Food pipeline, where the craft of creating a beverage is diminished into passionless assembly line work. But this place is the opposite. It is a little spaceship piloted by no more than one person at a time, doing it all. The difference, when something is made with a full, undivided heart, is incredible.
I am not a romantic person. But there is something charming about a little establishment like this, which might as well be a garage, using one hundred square feet and nothing more to serve real coffee. May this place be around for a hundred...
