Gus Tacos on Queen Street in Toronto is nothing short of a culinary gem that deserves all the accolades it receives. As a taco enthusiast, my experience at Gus Tacos has consistently been outstanding, making it my go-to spot for authentic Mexican fare.
From the moment you step into Gus Tacos, you are greeted by a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of a traditional taqueria. The décor is simple yet charming, with colorful murals and rustic wooden tables that add to the overall warmth of the place. The friendly staff are always ready with a smile, eager to assist and make recommendations, ensuring that every visit feels like a personal dining experience.
The menu at Gus Tacos is a delightful celebration of Mexican cuisine, offering a variety of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and more. What sets Gus Tacos apart is their commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and authentic flavors that transport you straight to the heart of Mexico. Each dish is meticulously prepared, balancing traditional techniques with innovative twists.
One standout item that deserves special mention is their Basa Fish Taco. This taco is a revelation—perfectly cooked basa fish, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, topped with fresh slaw, a hint of lime, and their signature sauce that adds just the right amount of zing. It is, without a doubt, the best fish taco I have ever had. The flavors meld together harmoniously, making each bite an absolute delight.
Another must-try is the Chilaca Pollo taco. The chicken is marinated to perfection, bursting with rich, smoky flavors that are enhanced by the chilaca pepper. The combination of juicy chicken, fresh vegetables, and tangy salsa creates a taco that is both hearty and refreshing. It’s a great choice for those who enjoy a bit of spice and a lot of flavor.
Beyond tacos, the rest of the menu at Gus Tacos is equally impressive. Their burritos are generously stuffed and bursting with flavor, while the quesadillas are perfectly cheesy and satisfying. The attention to detail in every dish is evident, making it clear that Gus Tacos takes pride in their culinary creations.
The overall dining experience at Gus Tacos is enhanced by their efficient and friendly service. Despite being a popular spot, the wait times are reasonable, and the staff go out of their way to ensure that you have a pleasant experience. Whether you are dining in or taking out, the quality of food and service remains consistently high.
In addition to their fantastic food, Gus Tacos also offers a great selection of beverages, including Mexican sodas and refreshing aguas frescas that pair perfectly with their dishes. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a casual meal with friends or family, or even to grab a quick bite on the go.
In conclusion, Gus Tacos on Queen Street is a standout in Toronto’s vibrant food scene. With their exceptional Basa Fish Taco, delectable Chilaca Pollo, and a menu full of other delicious options, it’s a place that never disappoints. The combination of authentic flavors, high-quality ingredients, and warm, welcoming service makes Gus Tacos a must-visit for anyone craving an unforgettable taco experience. Highly recommended!

Best authentic Mexican food spot in the GTA!
Tried the tacos, the tortilla, and the burrito.
Tacos: Tried the fish, chicken, and the beef tacos. Please see pictures. All tacos are decent size, base is of high quality, generous servings of filling, and a selection of hot sauces. 2 tacos will probably keep you full for a while. The beef steak taco really hits.
Burrito: Burritos here are huge. I tried the beef taco. Beef cuts are good, cooked well, and blended with a mayo and lettuce filling. Wrapped in a good quality tortilla. A burrito will keep you full for most of the day.
Sandwich: It's about 8 inches, but fluffy bread, lots of filling.
Lamb Tortilla: I forgot what exactly this was called, but it's minced lamb meat served in an open tortilla. Also excellent. That they serve lamb is itself remarkable, the lamb being well-seasoned and maintaining the characteristic lamb aroma in a tortilla dish is even more remarkable.
Birria taco: This is slow cooked stew beef. Was good.
Carnita taco: similar to birria but with pork. Also good
Quesadilla: tortilla with melted cheese, meat, cilantro, greens. Itself quite filling.
Hot sauces: I've tried the medium and hot sauce. The medium sauce is tolerable. The hot sauce is extreme, will burn your gums, but it's good. Prepare to drink lots of water to keep the mouth safe from extreme heat.
Drinks: I didn't try ant of their drinks, but they have TopoChico water which is the Perrier sparkling water of Mexico, which I've tried before. I recommend having this ready when you're downing some hot sauce, you will need it.
Interior is humble, it's a fast food spot after all, but this place demonstrates that an interior is not the end all be all. The restaurant at the Well has a good interior but their food is subpar. The humbler places have the better food.
Staff were very friendly and were willing to explain the menu items to me. Food comes fresh and quick.
This is an excellent food joint. It has a good reputation for quality and taste and that keeps bringing in the crowds. That is noble. They don't waste on loud advertising or try to snake you into deals like chain joints. This is simple,...
Read moreMy family and I went to Gus tacos tonight around eight and was very disappointed by the service. I waited in line just like anywhere else the guy at the cash took my order and was very nice and patient with me with my kind of long order. I’m now waiting to get my food when the girl who was calling out the numbers and assembling the bags calls me up and I go and look in my bag and ask for the extra salsa that I ordered she then proceeded to tell me that I got what I ordered I answered back very calmly that I ordered extra salsa when she tells me I didn’t i said to her okay well I would like extra she says okay then you have to pay for it very rudely might I add I say okay and go back to the cash register where The guy then ask me if I would like to order something else I said no I thought I ordered extra salsa and I guess I didn’t she says I have to pay for it. The guy was very confused as we could all see and said okay that’s fine and just charged me for it anyway and then handed me two more cause of how the woman was treating us. She then proceeds to start yelling at him on the sales floor and says what sounds like I already gave them more and you just gave them two more now you have to pay for it. She was very rude and I didn’t respect how she was speaking to her own coworker. I’ve been to this location many times before and never had any complaints but that woman does not know how to speak to people. She was very rude! However the man at the counter I wish I had gotten his name because he was very nice and I’m sorry he had to go through that...
