Gus Tacos — Restaurant in Toronto

I've been coming here pretty regularly over the last few weeks and find that the staff are USUALLY quite friendly and the food has always been great. Unfortunately, my experience with the service here today was not at all what I had expected given my initial impressions of the place.

During my visit, it was obvious that the staff in the back were speaking about me as they had pointed me out as the girl who wears a face veil using hand gestures (I'm quite literally the only one at the store wearing a niqab...), looked at me, and began laughing as if to make fun of me multiple times. One of the staff went out of his way to single me out to several of his coworkers but had never interacted with me during my visit which I found quite odd. I'm not exactly sure whether they were poking fun at how often I come here (I would have laughed along with him had he interacted WITH me and not been laughing AT me with others) or if it were more so to do with my niqab, but regardless of that fact, I don't think it was appropriate and feel it was unprovoked, catty behaviour. I never complained during my visit because I didn't want to make a scene and berate anyone at their job over an issue like this, but it made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and I don't think it should be left unaddressed.

I understand it is probably surprising to see someone from such a different background enjoy the food and come to the shop as often as I do, but it is absolutely unnecessary to point me out in such a humiliating way and laugh at me as if I am incompetent and can't use context clues to understand the conversation happening only a few metres away from me. I have always been kind to the employees here and don't see any reason as to why this would be their reaction to me simply existing as a customer who frequents the spot often. I am disappointed considering how much I genuinely enjoyed this place and have recommended it to others in the past but I don't think I'll be back after being made to feel alienated this way. I was shocked when my taco arrived. It was a small thin round Pita with what looked like some kind of meat on top.. The meat was cold tasteless and dry. And there were no toppings. So I thought for sure they made a mistake.. So I asked her where are my toppings like lettuce tomato and cheese. She told me they were extra cost. I was shocked again. I never paid extra for toppings in a Mexican place. Anyways that was by far the worst Taco I ever had. I only took one bite and threw it out. My son had a Burrito and it wasn't much better. Unlike places like Burrito Boyz where you have like a dozen options of toppings right in front of you that are free. This place just puts 3 things in your Burrito without even asking you what you want. The Burrito had the same dry tasteless cold meat. And the Burrito was cold itself. My son loves Mexican food and Burritos and he took a few bites but didnt finish a Burrito for the first time in his life. I was really surprised when I heard there were more locations other than this one.. I can't imagine why anybody would come back to this place. I'm usually willing to give every place a second try. This used to be one of my favorite places to get food and all of your other locations definitely still are. But that being said, the staff at this location desperately need to be trained in customer service. I have never been treated so poorly at any of your other locations as I was treated here today. I arrived to pick up an order was ignored for about 10 minutes then was finally spoken to and was told that my order was almost ready and would be packaged shortly about 7 minutes later after they had put out three orders that were not mine. I asked again and all of a sudden now my order is still being prepared and the staff member doesn't seem to notice any problem with that situation. If my order was not even started yet, why would you tell me it was almost done and being packaged? The staff member then got rude as well and was like if you want to cancel your order you can and I'm just kind of like that's really not the point. I was just asking for simple communication.

Again, this is one of my favorite food places. The food is almost always fantastic, but after the experience that I had here today, I will absolutely never come back to this...
