We were so happy to stumble onto this little restaurant since my partner has Celiac Disease & the menu stated repeatedly very many items being gluten free. We told our server about the Celiac disease and asked for recommendations. Unfortunately, both the servers and the chef don’t seem to have any concept of what GF actually means but are completely reassuring until repeatedly pressed on items that were obviously not GF. There were three separate items that were served that ended up not being GF and my partner actually ate half a wheat tortilla that was brought as a substitute for other wheat flour chips. She ate half but thought It tasted too good to be GF and the server only then confirmed it was in fact wheat, but didn’t seem to understand that wheat is exactly what we need to avoid. After three separate errors, including both main dishes, and no sense that the restaurant understood how to provide a safe meal for us, we needed to leave and head home ASAP waiting to see how bad the gluten contamination effects would be. We have never before sent food back and would have loved to try what looked to be very tasty food. If we could ever be convinced this was safe for people with Celiac Disease we would love to try...
Read moreReally disappointing dinner and experience. Starting with a very cold room and servers wearing their coats. Drinks were mediocre and around $14+ took forever to come to the table. They have 40 seats downstairs and can’t handle it with 5 staff working. We ordered $14 guacamole & chips - very tiny dish and didn’t taste fresh. For that price make it at my table and give me enough chips- they want $1.75 for more chips that took 20 minutes to come 10 feet from the kitchen. Our food arrived cold. I sent mine back to be barely warmed. No one checks on you, no one cares. The food was bland - I asked for salt and was given a tiny dish with s dirty spoon. If you set your fork down they want to take your plate - I don’t think anyone working here has experience. It’s a cheaply renovated restaurant demanding a price far too high for their food and drink quality, I can’t see them lasting when there's a far superior Mexican restaurant 1/2 block south on John Street, with great food great drinks and great service. At $100 for 2 drinks, 1 appetizer and 2 mains, this dinner was a fail. We at the King...
Read moreWhile wandering in Kensington, we decided to try this big fancy looking restaurant, the interior is pretty attractive. We ordered soups to begin, but our server tried to push to order nachos/ guac etc and also the main course at once, but we had ample to time, so we thought to take it slow & Thank God! I ordered veggie tomato - tortilla soup. The soup was tasteless, there was no salt, no flavour or not even the tangy taste of tomatoes. I asked the server for salt when she came to ask if everything was okay. And guess what? she just went away to take orders from another table, while I still was waiting for her to come back and get me the salt, but she totally ignored me again! So I had to get up and get it myself. I somehow ate the half bowl, I couldn't eat the full bowl of that faded soup. The salsas were too flat as well, it seemed they were watered- down. I found the place expensive even before I tried the food as compared to other eateries in the vicinity. So you would guess, how I felt afterwards!
