Aug/2021: You cannot rely on an open patio door to keep the main floor cool, especially during sweltering heat. A singular fan would greatly help in moving the air from kitchen to bar seating...or turn on the A/C. Aug/2019: Felt like a lite healthy meal and ordered two appetizers: The mussels and hummus platters. Ok and a soothing double gin martini for a week I'd rather forget. The hummus I am told is freshly made. It did not disappoint. The mussels are well garnished and the broth is delicious. The flourless chocolate cake and herbal cammomile tea completed the meal. Service was excellent. More good news, they've done away with the horrendous Brunch/weekend steak & eggs. That one should have never been served in the first place...at least not until you get a decent steak. *** Feb/2019: Brunch for two on a Saturday. New kitchen Staff and no longer on the menu for Brunch is the delicious chicken & waffle dish although chicken is still available for dinner. Apparently waffles are too cumbersome to make. That's a shame. In lieu, steak and eggs are ordered. For twenty dollars (average for the area) you get a good size meal but take away the salad and potatoes and you are left with a thin piece of meat that will push any kitchen to serve it medium rare and leave you asking: "where's the beef?" Better steaks can be gotten just about anywhere else. And that's a shame. With memories of earlier years, I'm left with the impression the business is going the cheap route...again. As for the 250 dollar tab for Brunch, I was not given an itemized receipt but simply a ticket with a grand total. And that's a third shame. Aug/2017. Regular great service with a Brunch of Chicken/Waffles. Infused ice cubes for the Caesar is a nice touch that will leave your drink with more than just melted water. 2017: Triple martini specials for the long weekend were perfect...that I can remember. Nov/2016. Lunch for two turns into lunch for one...oh well, more for me. Lamb stew, coffee & Galliano on a nippy, wet day. Perfect. Nice chunks of lamb in a gravy leaving me scraping the bowl with the bread. June 2016. Brunch with a friend who talked me into going back...almost kicking and screaming from previous negative experiences... and glad he did. As soon as we walked in we were pleasantly greeted and immediately seated. The service, food and drinks were all on point. Well done on the crab cakes, eggs Florentine, Caesar and mimosas.

Just might be the best poutine you will ever have! The atmosphere is very "dingy pub" but there's nothing dingy about this place. We opted to sit on the patio, which was a touch crowded but not bad. On a super hot day with no breeze, it got hot, but at least it was covered so the sun didn't bake us. There was a cute little water fountain that added to the ambiance. Overall it was a "Toronto backyard" vibe. The service was top notch, super friendly, checked on us just the right amount of times, and always with a huge smile. The drinks came out very fast, and they were very cold. The food was fantastic! Arugula salad was a touch small for me but delicious. The show stopper was the Duck Poutine. WOW! Somehow they managed to make quite possibly the tastiest French fries stay crispy under the gravy. The perfect amount of veal gravy, which was delicious, the right amount of cheese curds, and shredded duck that was cooked to perfection. It was a masterpiece! I've never had a poutine where the fries stayed crispy the entire time from start to finish. Usually half way through the fries have soaked up all the gravy and the fries on the bottom are mush, not this one! I didn't think I'd ever have a poutine as good as the ones in Quebec, but this one knocked it out of the park!

Grabbed a seat on the patio - I see why everyone loves this HUGE patio. There's a little bit for everyone. Couples who want to have a nice dinner, groups who want a wild night out, or a few friend who just want to have a couple of drinks over appetizers. I came for the romantic dinner. I started with the rose sangria. I love all things rose and all things sangria. It was delicious. My bf got the house beer. He wasn't a fan, but there were so many drinks options so he just switched it up. We split the potato skins to start. Aka the potato chip nachos. Need I say more? He got the steak sandwich for dinner. He wasn't that happy with it b/c the flank steak was a bit dry but the fries were good. I had the fried chicken on recommendation of our server. I was very happy with it. Deliciously crispy, well spiced, homemade batter with a juicy chicken inside. The jalapeño cornbread was awesome - I wish I had more. Buttery, velvety mashed potatoes and fresh veggies on the side. Our server was great as well. A bit slow, but it was a busy Friday night

Leaving this review based solely on what happened on one occasion, but I hope the manager reads it as it was unexpected and pretty ridiculous. I know this place has amazing food so I came here with a friend on June 1st, 3.45pm. A waiter sat us down on the patio and…disappeared. I initially thought there was just one waiter and there were less than 10 occupied tables overall, so I took for granted he was busy. 10 minutes go by, no menu nor water, and we then notice that a couple close by stood up to go to the same waiter to get the bill, as he was not acknowledging our area of the patio at all. After 10 minutes my friend literally starts waving at the waiter to try to get his attention. Still nothing, but he was talking with other customers. More minutes go by and we noticed there were 3 waiters in total. The couple next to us was still waiting for the bill. At that point, while I wanted to see how much longer they were going to completely ignore us, my friend keeps trying to get their attention. Still nothing. After 22 minutes, and yes I’m being specific as I counted them, we stood up and left, with the same couple next to us telling us they were sorry (definitely not their fault😅) -still waiting for their bill. On our way out we had to walk by the entrance again just to notice the 3 same waiters just hugging and chatting with each other. I politely pointed out we’ve waited over 20 minutes without even being acknowledged and they looked in complete disbelief. Should have I not said anything, I’m pretty sure they would have not even remembered we were actually there. Manager, just saying, this is a very easy way to lose paying customers and build a...

It breaks my heart to give this place a 2 star review but unfortunately I have to write a review about my latest visit. I don't live in Toronto anymore but I came in for the weekend and had to come to Hair of the Dog as they have some of the best food in the city. I got Southern Fried Chicken which was absolutely delicious especially with the gravy poured over the chicken. My friend also ordered the southern fried chicken and told the waiter he didn't want any mashed potatoes. She asked him if he would like extra vegetables instead and he said 'yes sure!' We had a good meal and afterwards when we got the receipt, my friend saw that he had been charged an extra 3 dollars for the vegetables. Had he had known there was an extra charge, he would have just not gotten any mash and just the regular amount of vegetables but the waiter offered more vegetables as a substitute. It left an awful taste in our mouths about the whole experience. My friend even asked the waiter 'you charged me for the extra vegetables?' in a very kind way and she just said 'ya I did' without offering any explanation or offering to remove the charge. I'm absolutely heartbroken because this is one of my favorite places in the city because the food is so good but if this is how they treat their customers then unfortunately I will not be returning on my...
